Xbox Media Centre acts as a media centre extender for a PC you still need to have a TV card or what not in the pc and have it record the Xbox just plays back or lets you schedule recordings.
Well if it gets rid of a lot of the celeb perfumes like "Ke$sha's pong", its not all that bad.
It basically means that perfume will cost more. I doubt the trees will just disapear as their value will increase as they become more rare and demand rises.
While trees don't have a predictable growth pattern I would have thought that enough people would be trying to grow them that they wont be wiped out ?
If you bought a PC in the last 2 years it probally came with windows 7. if you bought a PC before that it had vista. unless you downgraded your OS you are running some seriously old hardware.
Which is what the vast majority of people would have done.
I don't have any problem with buying software but if I need to go to china currently it costs me a fortune to call back with my mobile or use data while I'm there.
This will just increase the cost unless developers set it to reasonable limits like checks once a fortnight or every 100 launches, rather than everyday or every launch.
The long term impact of apple apparently randomly pulling apps from the iphone and soon the ipad, is that investors and companies who make the apps have an uncertain future. They can make an app which is accepted and put on the app store and make money and at an unknown point in the future it could be pulled meaning the odds of getting ROI is low.
It would make me think twice about investing in the iPhone app store.
Vista is not as bad as people make out, sure it was locked down tight out of the box and a bit of a pain to unlock but once you configure it how you like it its fine enough.
Windows 7 takes that adds more polish and defaults to what most people want out of an OS
Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, AOL, Maxthon, K-Meleon, Flock, Avant Browser, Sleipnir and Slim Browser
According to http://www.itworld.com/internet/89417/eu-accepts-microsofts-commitments-offer-browser-choice
Currently you get low end Netbooks which run Ubuntu and better speced ones which run Windows XP. Your always given options but the options normally are there to limit your choice rather than expand it. Its easier to support 4 types of system than 400.
I'd see it as being sold like it currently is :
1. Cheap as chips with Ubuntu.
2. Average with Ubuntu.
3. "Premium" with Windows 7.
4. Ultimate with Windows 7.
From your average un techy punter Ubuntu is seen as a cheap but worse option, which is why so many people punt up the extra cash $20 is not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
I would not be surpised if a few manufacturers upped the price a bit more in order to make more of a profit and blame it on Windows 7.
Download just isnt right for this type of software
I can understand people buying games and utilities on a download service since the most you normally would waste is £30-£50. with normally ambigious terms and conditions and the odds of people dropping a part of a business (normally stuffing all the users in the process). I cant see that many people jumping at the chance to spend £500+ when they will probally only be able to use it for a limted time.
While I appreciate langague evolves over time, I would like to think that the dictionary would be refining words rather than letting all this trash in which are based on fads like facebook.
If silverlight is basiccally a whizzy version of flash for your desktop then how is it compared to the iPhone, which activly doesnt support it.
Its not like multitouch interfaces are exclusivly iPhone only there have been several versions from several vendors over the past decade not least MS's own multitouch coffe table thingie.

Ask the government if it should tax something ?
What answer are you going to get apart from "YES of course"
Its like asking a company if it wants tax breaks.
Security
New security holes are being found all the time. New versions of software get patched old ones dont.
If you value your data then you keep yourself in the patching zone.
Running XP on a current machine isnt normal
If you bought a PC in the last 2 years it probally came with windows 7. if you bought a PC before that it had vista. unless you downgraded your OS you are running some seriously old hardware.
Which is what the vast majority of people would have done.
E3
Just in time.
I'm sure its a coincidence.
Coze they would have got crucified if they hadn't.
Get your stripper pole here.
Is it just me or did this read like an advert for people to buy stripper poles ?
Apple owns you all.
I've heard many times people refer to the Android App store (sure the offical name is Market).
Personally I think that it is too generic its the 2nd or 3rd step to apple owning the dictionary after they claimed they owned the letter i.
Fanbaiting ?
My personal feeling is that the Ipad and the Android Tablets all suffer from the same thing.
Its phone software on something which isnt a phone.
I hope the next generation acctually take a proper OS and shrink it so it works with a touch interface rather than upscaling a phone.
765 / 2 = ?
"The missing pieces of the jigsaw equate to 765 million users – half of that number would give the site another 382 million members."
Basic Maths FTW!
RE: Maybe his stand-in...
You never know when you might need something that costs 40 Billion.
I hear black market livers can cost quite a bit.
I read the title as O2...
Interesting promo for them I thought...
Nice but....
Can it play "Crysis" ?
Web browser
Is that really a feature?
I dont know of anyone who would choose to browse on their ps3 or wii.
Most have a mac\pc and prefer it or if not then their phone.
the browser on a console is like 3rd to 4th choice for vast majority of people.
Its almost like they wanted a legit host like amazon.
but they wouldn't let them.
People go where they are driven.
We have all known this for years...
Its well known that aliens appear in hollywood all the time.
and Hacked in 3...2...1...
If it ever does get hacked you could brick the whole worlds iPhone.
Extra Kudos if they hack it from an andriod phone.
I couldn't agree more.
How this type of thing is not false advertising is beyond me.
"Giving operators the option of disabling tethering makes sense"
I don't see why operators are so against it surly they just need to sort out the price and stop selling limited "unlimited" deals.
Re: Umm...
I agree with you and apple that people should not expect apple to support unlocked or jailbroken phones (or any other type of hardware).
But disabling or spying on the user sounds like its more than a bit illegal.
Bias title
I do like how they normally drop the fact that its only one game from the title.
I'm sure other games the opposite is true (GTA4 for example).
If you drop the game the story is much more interesting.
Pikey Freeloaders ?

Dollars or Euros?
Seem to have gotten a bit confused there.
I'll give it a week...
before apple reject their first extension for violating some dodgy term like it competes with another one of their products.
Simple solution
Looks like a nice simple solution to a problem, not a major problem admittedly.
News just in
news coming soon...
Lets hope it doesn't brick this time.
I don't see why not.
Android has a growing market in spite all eyes are on apple.
There is no reason why Windows 7 Mobile can't, except that it wont.
Clever but ultimately pointless.
its flash with out flash I dont think the consumer will put up with the slowness of it tho.
Carnies
It could be the other meaning of geek.
Geek : a carnival performer who does disgusting acts.
maybe your average iPad owner also bite the heads off chickens too
Pegi vs BBFC
Personally I've always found the BBFC stand out more.
I agree why they should have one I agree that a pan-european one is better than a local one.
Hopefully Pegi will take the oportunity to take the space from the BBFC and make their logos stand out a bit more.
Killing their own business ?

Hypocrisy
The hypocrisy is expanding to support the expanding hypocrisy
In other news
Anti-MS brigade gets usual FUD article published on El reg.
IE6 on XP is vunerable, MS have been trying to get people to upgrade for years now.
The exploit "could" be updated to work on IE7 and IE8 but there is no evidence that it has.
Can you really blame them for trying to get people to upgrade ?
Other Film
Does anyone else want to see "a patriotic biopic on the life of Confucius" apart from me ?
We want it in the West your keeping it from us damn you!
I couldnt agree more...

Consolation prize?
Ahhh well you have failed at everything and you have little hope for the future, here have a laptop.
All better now good figure out how to get on the dole.
... and when it does.
So lets hope they don't sell everyones details to everyone else when then happens.
Why use our browser when you can build one ?
I think your average user will not know how to read code let alone compile it.
The 12 Browsers
Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, AOL, Maxthon, K-Meleon, Flock, Avant Browser, Sleipnir and Slim Browser
According to http://www.itworld.com/internet/89417/eu-accepts-microsofts-commitments-offer-browser-choice
Google Chrome Adverts
They are still going on at the Westfield in London.
If only Apple would follow suit.
I cant see it tho Safari a Mac Browser on Mac OS by default is a massivly different kettle of fish than a Ms Browser on a MS OS by default
Telegraph article
Link to the article you nicked it from then ?
and what has this got to do with IT ?
Last week would have been better.
Why am I only finding out about this now its shut ?
Not really a change ?

More money for a new version?
I'm sorry a new version of anything cost more its the way it works. I'm surprised its as little as $20.
State of the dictionary
While I appreciate langague evolves over time, I would like to think that the dictionary would be refining words rather than letting all this trash in which are based on fads like facebook.

Simple
Apple over charge for the hardware why would they let you easily upgrade poor hardware with better without paying apple tax.
Most of the users are such zealots or too stupid to realise they are paying over the odds.
@Jeroen Braamhaar
Its not like they can do it for firefox or any of the other browsers tho is it ?
and if they did someone would whinge that they didnt do it for their browser.
