You can call bullshit all you want. Only two words show how wrong you are: lend/lease

Silly US, whenever we do the right thing we get blasted for it.

Pearl Harbor was just the door Roosevelt walked (rolled) through. He couldn't publicly support China or Britain because of the citizenry's isolationist feelings. Pearl Harbor just got the population behind him.

I have gotta take McCain's (McPresident? Bwahahaha!) side on the STS issue. But he should be applying pressure to NASA and get them to dump that turkey "Orion".

Brad = WIN!

I'd love to see Mars get tagged!

Hmmm....

Looks like Sun really needs to quit trying to make Solaris anything other than a proprietary OS.

Don

Maybe I'm paranoid...

But what's to stop someone a few years down the road from deciding to carry this database into the kids adult lives?

Just the fact that the information is kept is enough of a risk IMHO.

Who among us weren't complete psychos as kids?

Don

Where's mine?

Why don't our kids get 'em? Heck, my son's high school REQUIRES a scientific calculator at $100 a pop. Seems to me a laptop would be more useful.

It's NOT a review!!!!!one

Since damn near everybody missed it, please read the header on the article again. It wasn't a review, but a commentary.

He was commenting on HIS experience IRL with the phone. Way different than a review. He did an initial review and gave the iPhone a good score. Then lived with it for a while and decided he disliked the effect on his life and the people around him.

Fanbois: Step back and look at the article for what it is, not what you want it to be.

Partly Right

"However, when it comes to the stuff that really matters -- how much juice you're sucking out of the pipe, hardware matters far more than software. How about you buy an efficient power supply, efficient video card and CPU, followed by an efficient HDD and the smallest monitor you can buy"

That's only partly correct. I come from the C=64 world where every bit was precious. The sloppy programming out there now would have horrified me then.

Combine efficient programming techniques using minimal memory (disk or RAM) as well as minimal CPU cycles and you get faster software using less electricity.

Then look at using low power systems. Laptops run less juice than most desktops. There are some micro PCs out there using laptop components that are quite green.

We can apply both methods to our computing and all be so green we won't NEED to buy a Prius!

Migrating to Linux

The thing that still kills Linux (Lindows notwithstanding) is the average user. My wife is an average user and there's no way in heck I'd put her in front of a Linux machine, regardless of the interface.

Don

This is why...

...it's important to re-evalutate active software regularly. Just because "it passed the audit 2 years ago" doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws.

Don

So does this mean...

Our astronauts will soon be able to get good dim sum in space?
