How the heck can you expect someone to model the market - a system based completely on irrationality and human behaviour?!? If someone had done that they'd be pretty rich/screwed the stock market by now. It's the Physics grads head-hunted by the hedge-funds with no sense of economics or moral consequences that got us into this mess.
The first person to try and treat economics as a science was Marx. Now it's just mirco economics they look at as a science. Not the big picture. Not only is it pretty impossible to model the global economy but they wouldn't like what they saw if they got anyway close.
Skull & Crossbones because finance capitalism is piracy.
DPA - friend of the ignorant, petty-minded bureaucrat.
I know this sort of nonsense all to well. DPA isn't necessarily being MISused, but often abused by folk. It's basically used as a away of getting rid of people rather than having to deal with problems/enquiries properly.
For example, just this week I wasn't allowed to use my local libraries computers - despite knowing my number, password and had proof of ID - as I had forgotten my card, the reason being 'because of the Data Protection Act'. I walked off somewhat baffled as to the logic but knew arguing would have gotten me nowhere, either their ignorance or obstreperousness would have won the day.
They use it to fob people off, or if you challenge them a bureaucratic wall goes up.
Saw the black car that has been spotted already in Glasgow and elsewhere in Scotland on Cumbernauld Road in eastend ay 14:45. Was just past the junction next to Duke Street train station. Drove right past it so couldn't take a pic I'm afraid. This is sort of spooky isn't it?
Your premise of who is going to fill all these 'millions' of jobs as we have no mass unemployment in the US and UK is absolute nonsense. UK unemployment alone is 1.6 million, not including the 2.7 million on incapacity benefit of which a large proportion are claiming instead of jobseeker's much to the delight of the government to reduce their unemployment figures.
I don't see how even an extra million people being productive for society and not living off state subsidies is a 'cost' and not a benefit.
Though it's sounds like you'd be much happier with a reserve army of unemployed to keep your starbuck's coffee cheaper and economy based on 'finance capital' as that seems to be working so well at the moment...
I was looking forward to the Wii. The innovative controller design and technology was appealing, knowing the company's history for innovation. However being a long stand Nintendo fan, I was aware of the companies complete disregard for Europe which has caused it's last to consoles to fizzle out like a couple of damp squibs.
This time I thought - maybe thinks will be different? Wii has launch with a bang in both the US and Japan, selling out and out selling the PS3 there. With the momentum of those two launches and with the PS3 not launching until after Christmas here, the Wii seemed unstoppable. What could go wrong?
But, oh wait, things don't seem to have changed that much, Nintendo still doesn't seem to care much about Europe. Two weeks before Christmas they ship less than they promised. Not only that, but they seem to have allocated less Wii's for those who have 'pre-ordered' to guarantee themselves or their kids' a Wii but they are still selling to those who sleep over, queue or just walk into a 24 supermarket. More concerned with 'selling out!' and headlines of people 'camping out' than customer relations. Oh and we have to pay £50 more than the Americans.
Could this be another 5 years or poor relations, bad advertising and PR, poor third-party support, shoddy PAL conversions and ever distant release dates. Something I'd rather not pay £180 for the privilege of going through, again.

Annoying. Sorry, I needed to share.

Nintendo: Screwing Europe for 20 years

Wii are not amused.
