Re: Bushey Arches

Waxing is the approved technique I believe.

Riots

I gather many news organisations aren't above misappropriating one countries riots for another either!

RichardB

errr... what?

Really? Seriously?

U mad?

RichardB
Mushroom

How long?

Well, after the fairly abrupt and bloody confrontation in the early 90s to 'liberate' kuwait, the Iraqi armed forces were bombed daily by the coalition enforcement of the 'no fly zone'.

10 years of eliminating anti aircraft and radar facilities, and any build up or organisation of land forces.

So, all in all, about 20 years?

RichardB
Headmaster

Actually, No.

If you are in the bottom tax bracket you pay 20% of all _taxable_ income.

This is what is left after you take off the personal allowance (about £7,500 this year).

So if you only earn 10k you get taxed at 20% on 2.5k - an effective rate of well below 20%.

Obviously as you earn more, this allowance offsets less and less proportionally of your income, meaning you pay more and more as an overall percentage - even before you rise up in the bands.

This is the fundamental principle of progressive taxation, and one that seems to bypass most peoples minds.

get their money back??

Hang on, didn't they borrow it in the first place?

Perhaps they should be encouraging the 99% to meet their debt obligations, then there wouldn't be a problem.

RichardB

Orange Juice?

Luxury.

RichardB
Devil

Ed - whats with the positional play here?

Putting this next to the lass biting her fellas balls off?

Really.

RichardB

Looks like a reg journo

is headed for the cells... incitement to riot on a grand scale

RichardB

Why 99?

Surely they would sell reasonably well at 200?

This must clearly be a marketing scam of some kind, why else have they not had well publicised staged price drops into 'reasonable' territory to find a viable pricepoint?

RichardB

Uh oh...

someone else looks due for some jail time... Looks like China was right all along, the interweb is dangerous and should be policed rigourously, with jailtime and bullets in the head for dissenters.

RichardB

Someone should really explain

to the premier IT online Rag the difference between Hardware and Software....

Well, by stating that 3 is outside the universe yet affecting it, then you are by very definition of terms stating 4 - that it is not a closed system.

Therefore, by accepting 4 as true and as necessary but not sufficient for 3 ( ie for an external entity to afffect the universe, the universe must by definition not be a closed system, but that it not being a closed system does not prove the external entity ), then it is simple to construct a truth table where 1,2,4 are true, yet 3 is not, but you cannot construct one where 3 is true and 4 is false.

RichardB
Devil

Surely..

..if you add 3 as a predicate, then you are by definition adding 4, as it is necessary but not sufficient for 3 - ie 3 implies 4.

Unfortunately, as 3 only implies 4, then we can construct a viable argument that as 4 is necessary to accept 3, then 3 is not defacto a requirement in the broader argument and there exists a valid case where 1,2 and 4 are true, yet 3 is false.

Ie, your argument is not logically sound. Shame really.

RichardB
Trollface

I can smell me some irony in here...

Al Fazed: "these Eaton educated Tory overlords just ain't that smart. "

RichardB

Does it apply Politicians

There are many stories of political parties organising professionals to hang around on forums and drive 'chat' towards the party line and troll out any dissenters.

Certainly feels to be the case on some of the fora I frequent.

RichardB
Devil

I wonder

how many kids get raped online.

I suspect it's not many.

RichardB

Leet speek?

Surely in those days they wouldn't have used a * in his name?

RichardB

HMRC

Aye, got one from them too. Seemed quite put out that I wanted to call them back on a published number.

Eventually found the number they gave me deep inside an internal looking document that was available on their website.

These organisations should implement 2 things - 1stly always print their numbers as a single string, and secondly put up a lookup box on their website to verify numbers that are client facing, or flag numbers that are known tricksters.

They also need to do something sensible with their ATMs... but that is a different subject!

RichardB
Thumb Up

So this is just going to improve...

When everyone has contactless credit cards for 'small payments' - say under 50 quid...?

Sure. Mines the one without the wireless rfid direct line to my bank account...

RichardB

@dwayne

Guessing you've never tried it then?

The sheer speed and responsiveness outweighs so many of the drawbacks it is just not funny.

RichardB

Presumably in spain

if you don't bother to put a passcode on your answer phone its open to the world, right?

Like it should be anywhere sensible.

Incidentally, if a squatter is faced with a combination lock with the _default_ manufacturers code, and lets himself in, is that breakin and entry? Or non secured property?

RichardB

deal? Verbal contract perhaps?

Is a 16 year old legally able to be bound by a contract?

RichardB

Not that the Iranians have infiltrated?

Better the Great Satan you know....

RichardB

Hum

Seems a shame.

Funny how the council can run big electric rubbish cart trolley things on the pavement even though they have _numberplates_ though!

RichardB
Go

Of all the stories out today

THIS is the one that really cries out for Lego reenactment...

RichardB

Pretty Sure

Quirkes exception would apply here.

Black Helicopters

keep up back there...

RichardB

so, uh

exactly how many 0's can you fit into 1.5GB?

RichardB

Hacking into...

Is this just calling up their remote answerphone and trying their date of birth as the password?

RichardB

casting...

should be Clint.... definately!

RichardB
Thumb Up

FusionIO ftw

16 of those Fusion cards in a stripe giving 10TB ultra fast storage. Probably somewhere itro 4-10GB/s sustained read... and several million iops! Trick is having enough CPU/RAM to deal with the data.

Awesomeness. Want.

RichardB

What a coincidence...

Just this morning reading Wellington - Pillar of State, on the way to Waterloo, I came across the following: (describing events on the march to France following the battle for which the station was named)

"One Netherlands colonel ordered a feu de joie. The shots astonished even Wellington who foresaw trouble rather than joy on the march and thought his army had fallen into an ambush"

RichardB

Inferno?

Not Lesbian Spank Inferno?

RichardB

Does a trademark trump a patent?

Surely something fictional can't be used to prevent the construction of something real?

Or does Carl Sagans estate actually get stunning amounts of royalties from the Geostationary satellite networks? Will asimov get royalties for robots that seem a bit like stuff he wrote about?

Sounds like if you want to rake it in for the future, just get writing, or knock up some utube clips of stuff that looks a bit futuristic, then claim the $$$$s when something a bit like it gets built.

RichardB

Yeah Kinda

Sadly I suspect not, but I can dream :D

RichardB

@McMe

Don't like it eh? Had best part of 15 years of the politics of envy and the destruction of everything British. A decade of abuse from the public sector, fines, beaurocratic crap, parking restrictions, cameras, snotfaced pcsos that can't even button a uniform on straight, 23 different bins and jumped up little hitlers at every turn.

Well, now the Tories have the reins - so it's time you got used to it... sooner you accept it the easier it will be for you ;)

RichardB
FAIL

@ Still AC

Tough, you lost the election, get used to it.

No more lesbian outreach coordinators, no more play in the community commissars, and a good reduction in the ID nkvd.

The makework has finished, it's time to find a proper job.

RichardB

Should use a different frequency...

how about the Brown Note...?

That would be degrading...

RichardB

@AC 13:11

Pretty much, yeah.

I can prescribe my own paracetamol, so no need for a GP, and private health insurance covers the rest. Ever tried calling the cops? People rarely if ever need to call the fire service, and frankly in rented accomodation it would be cheaper to let it burn and replace whats needed that pay for a fire brigade. I'd prefer to not need a driving license thanks, and passports and the state pension I piss on.

Public sector does almost nothing of use. Parasitical drivel the lot of it.

RichardB
Grenade

Quick, crack open the violin case

Poor, poor public sector workers, performing vital roles in crap council websites we don't need and rubbish online payment systems we don't want are losing their tax funded jobs.

Pity, it's going to make recruiting decent staff that bit harder.

RichardB

Siounded suprisingly reasonable until I got to

the bit where it seemed to indicate that each had more than one pellet so deep they couldn't extract... I mean - 1 each sounds like science, more than one, well, that's got to be political.

RichardB

@the historical stats

I wonder how much of that is to do with vehicle age and design?

Also how many teenagers are now priced off the roads?

How do those stats break down when untaxed + unmot'd, racing and vehicles engaged in (proper - ie not traffic related) criminal activity are taken out of the mix?

RichardB

She's getting divorced?

... and presumably Trigg already knows!

RichardB
Jobs Horns

If she thinks _that_ is theft

...just wait till she finds out who they are going to sell - or have already sold - the data associated with it to!

What was the list of internet 'mugs' that was doing the rounds? Wonder if she's on that yet...

RichardB

Refunds?

Wonder how many people will be looking for their cashback and details expunged?

RichardB
FAIL

Misleading graph!??!

Wondering why you have reversed the time axis?

Surely this would just look like a blip if the graph were in 'normal' chronological order? The way you present it suggests an ongoing disaster. I know people can look carefully at the scales - but the point of the chart is to convey meaning without too close a look - presumably this was a deliberate choice by someone, but who - and what is their agenda?

RichardB

For a lovable sql book

Look no further than the Manga Guide to Databases.

Seriously.

RichardB

Savings?

To all of you whining about them needing to 'give us back our money' - well, the reason its 'gone' is because they lent it back to mugs in the UK to buy overpriced houses.

The real question of where the money is, is who downsized - or sold up and got out. They are the ones with 'our' money.

RichardB

several days?

I hear that some interviewer asking an Icelander about it was rather shocked by the response that last time it took 2 years to finish erupting...
