Philips and Olympus are the two dictation device makes you most frequently see in office situations in my experience, where professionals use these devices for transcription all day every day. Each manufacturer has a whole digital dictation ecosystem with dedicated transcription pedals and server software (including handling DSS files and all the relevant metadata).
Personally I use a Philips DPM 9600 after the better part of two decades using a genuine Dictaphone (the brand, not the generic title) until it finally died. The thumb move for recording's identical, and I'm too lazy to change.
... but I think you mean the first partnerships. Corporations were created a lot later so there would be a separate legal entity, meaning that a business going titsup didn't take out all of the proprietors and investors with it.

The ipad is awesome for carrying large quantities of documents as PDFs. Tried a lot of alternatives - tablets (in the old Windows pen sense) are too bulky and too slow. Ebook readers are waaaay too slow with large scanned PDFs (my old irex took ^ 20 seconds to change pages).
ipad + goodreader + a good scanner = so much win it's incredible.

I'm still amazed that I got my university degree whilst playing this. I remember wiping out most of a study vacation on it.
You could also get into the files and change the opening text from that sombre creed they used while the game set up. That was fun for a few minutes.
