@ Chris C

Yes, it probably was a donor. But, wagging the accusatory finger at 1 of 58 donors is a good way to lose funds from several of them.

Re; Dangermouse

It couldbe mailed to several different addresses. It also doesn't stop me setting up any other kind of account (email for one) in your name. So once you get off of the social networkign sites, do you continue it out to all other sites that require registration?

@AC 12:31 - Authenitcation

I would suppose they would (unbelievably) have some authentication measures in place

VLC...

VLC works on the Touch ;)

@Dan

Can work to your advantage

If you know their tactics then it can work in your favour. I've had a couple of amazing deals from Phones4U after (intentionally) trying to return a handset and contract within 14 days. After explaining to the store rep that there was no way I would take the phone no matter how much he persisted he finally agrees to cancel the contract. However, they were required to call their own retentions department first.....and these are the people that can give you the sweet deals. I managed to get the handset for free, on a 12 month contract as opposed to the now normal 18 month with 6 months free (by cheque which was received within 3 or 4 weeks) and the promise to buy the contract back after 9 months of a 12 month contract. A friend of mine has done much the same on a couple of occasions.

It makes it all the more enjoyable when you know what tossers they are ;)

Speeling

I often hope these people with frequent and terrible speeling mistakes don't have English as their first langwage ;)

Miguel

They also cap other ISPs IP Stream service

sync speeds of a certain size are attached to a particular profile i.e. your sync speed is 6900, then you only get the lower profile. I cant remember the ranges off the top of my head but I do remember that if your sync speed is the absolute max of 8128 then you will only be able to get throughput of 7150.

Poor service all round, even if you're not with BT

Seems quite a common LA purchase then

Given that Glasgow City Council use Bluecoat products aswell as the others mentioned above.

Go

Give yourself a pat on the back Faceparty

When you start a site that, obivously, begins small, everyone knows what its about. When the site grows into something much bigger and you start adding all sorts to it newcomers, and often the founding members, seem to forget what it is.

Fuck them. As much as most people will be slating them for this, it takes balls to shut a site down that's as big as that.

BTW, I couldn't care for these social networking sites as a whole. I'm speaking generally here.

Paradox?

However, hospital staff were keen to stress that the laptops were "password protected".

“We believe the data will almost certainly be wiped by the thief so he can get a quick sale"

And how might your average thief, were he so gracious to wipe everything before trading for a tenner bag, intend on wiping the data if the laptops are password protected.

I wish people would stop treating us looks fools. Even more so, however, I wish people would stop letting them get away with it.

Appalling.

Miguel

Eh?

There are so many people out there that know a lot on this topic but can't get a job because they don't have the experience - very similar to any other IT job. Students complain they cant find work and companies complain they cant find the staff. the solution is not to train prisoners..........

Miguel

Its all o2 staff, i tell ye

At £100 an iphone, o2 staff were allowed to buy one for themselves and another for friends/family. Unlock it and put your staff simplicity sim in it (£10 pm for 1000mins & 1000texts) and take the data plan as your free bolt on, it really is a good bargain. Total it up and average that out over the typical term of 18 months and thats a £15 pm tariff with an 8gb iphone.

Not a bad deal, even if the 3g one is due out!

Mandatory titles suck...

I'm surprised no ones pointed out the obvious that when travel cards, or oyster cards in this case, are monitored then the big bad terrorists simply pay cash. Until, of course the use of travel cards is the only way to pay for transport which Im sure will happen at some point.

Still another point that is made quite often but that needs t be repeated is that there was never any of this carry on when the IRA was bombing Britain. Weighing it up, I'd say that the IRA was a much bigger threat than some 17 year old student who hates the world.

That thing is fugly.

Seriously, I cannot understand how anyone can be drawn to this phone based on it's looks.

@Steven Hewitt

Not everyone loves to hate MS. I just don't like using Windows mobile.

Miguel

*sigh*

This thing looks amazing. Not sure I'm feeling much love for windows mobile though...

So, these public services and organisations are poorly managed? These government organisations? I suppose you could say that that is government ineptitude?

Granted, it isn't specific to government ministers but it is specific to government organisations.

If things are going to change then it is the government (the organisations related minister) who should be putting through the required changes.

Might not be as direct as you would like, Alan Lukaszewicz, but it is most definitely government ineptitude.

So it wasn't just me...

Heh, I'm approaching the end of my first billing period with them and was watching with a careful eye to see if there were any mistakes. Lo and behold, I thought, they've gone and invoiced me. Fortunately, I sent an email questioning it and received a friendly & apologetic reply.

Thankfully, I wasn't billed or anything like that. I can only imagine my rage had something like that happened, so for those who were billed it must be a traumatic experience.

I've found them to be alright so far. I guess you have to expect certain things when you pay so little for what's advertised. $22.40 for a year?!

Hope it get's sorted alright :(

All Microsoft?

Don't get me wrong, some if it looks good, but I'm wondering if there's any chance of something non-Microsoft appearing at some point. Doubtful I suppose :(

Corrections....

If you're going to correct someone, try not to make a mistake in the process ;)

Terrible news.....

I wonder what Ray Harryhausen is saying about this

Wired.com had a good article on this...

An interview with Luis Von Ahn and talks about recaptcha. Very good article I thought

Bet the kids will love this idea

Instead of having to have someone else sign the register for you, just have someone else carry your jumper/blazer/badge. That way your mate doesn't have to risk getting caught for signing someone else in; the system does it for you.

"As long as Ruth is English, and not an annoying telly advert Scot"

So much for a "United Kingdom", eh?

"By the way, the Scots accent (with the obvious exception of Glasgow) has been voted on many occasions as the most trusted"

It would be nice if people could comment from first-hand experience but unfortunately most like to perpetuate misconceptions from stories that have made their way through several mouths. Having visited Glasgow a number of times I can say I was surprised when I found out it wasn't the kind of place people kept telling me it was.

Miguel

"Up to" 16meg?

Wonder if they'll be moving on to ISPs next. Somehow I doubt it.....
