How come noone seems to make a gaming trackball for us trackball users?
Sometimes if you have limited deskspace, but want to game, your stuck with a trackball.
Been using the same model for years, Logitech Trackman Marble, as its only thing that fits my desk space and feels comfortable, yet they make nothing simliar that works good with games, so its use that and a lot of keyboard macros.
This particular one is getting harder and harder to find replacements :(
No, someone realized that they could purchase all of the tickets now, destroy them, then reprint them and resell with a higher "face value" price when the olympics gets closer.
Well, if mankind was not so obsessed with expanding horizontally, but insteaded went with vertically, the planet could easily substain 20x's the population density with proper management.
Its just a matter of having the proper type of buildings constructed in a verticle format in non-food growing areas, using other non-food growing areas for power production, then using areas that are viable for food growth for actually growing nothing but food for well, food growth, and it would be viable.
Instead we have large chunks of horizontal areas in areas that food could be grown covered by homes and lawns while other areas where we could have vertical homes and power production are just lying useless because joe blow wants to own a couple hundred acres of land for himself.
they had someone send them some info on something they want more info on, they replied to the person but havent heard back, and really want more info so are hoping the person sees this.
I have plenty of bandwidth for streaming, but find the selection kind of sucks, however I prefer to get multple movies at a time and then veg for a few hours on the weekend.
Kind of hard to do if I have to pay $16 and get only one movie a week.
Guess I will stick to the local redbox machine for now.
First of all, right now, my g/f has an older mac that was running fine until the power supply failed. Unfortunantly I can not replace this with an off the shelf replacement (about $40) because Apple decided to use a non-standard pin out. The cost for a replacement? $200 (give or take)
For this particular issue, eventually someone will come up with a solution that will involve an adaper on the Mac power plug.
This adapter will split the plug into two parts, one of which will handle standard harddrive power, while the second will connect to a modifed chip that will emulate the apple firmware, and have a built in heat sensor that will allow for fan speed adjustment in the event of high heat being detected.
over here across the pond (or at least where i am) if an isp was offering "up to" 20mb, and delivering only 10mb, there would be hell to pay.

Just did some quick math.. per wikipedia (I know, not reliable source) regular flu has a .02% kill rate, swine flu has a 2% (im averaging its actually higher) .. a worldwide populate of 07/08 at 6,710,926,117 (according to some sources) if everyone got the flu, the total in deaths would be:
Total population: 6,710,926,117
Regular Flu : 1,342,185.2234 potential deaths.*
Swine flu : 134,218,522.34 potential deaths.*
(( *Regular flu deaths is actually much smaller each year, however not everyone gets infected each year, and its fairly easily treatable. The above totals are if the WHOLE population got infected, and there were more limited treatments. ))
and thats if the swine flu doesnt do an antigen shift (which it has a high posibility of doing, higher then regular flu)... which would mean if you survived the initial, you could get it again and die.
Some people have done comparision to the 1918-1919 flu (Spanish flu which was estimated that anywhere from 20 to 100 million died), saying that this could have the same results. The pandemic is estimated to have affected up to one billion people (about 1/2 the worlds population at the time).
One of the biggest debates on this, is that in 1918 - 1919, medical care was not as good as it is.
While this is true, and medical care is much better now, in 1918 - 1919 we also did not have the potential for much larger spread.
With the ability to go 1/2 way around the world in a few hours (instead months at that time), and how crowded airports are these days, the potential for a larger amount of infection is much greater then it was then.
Imagine someone infected, going through a large airport, how many you think are going to infected, who are then going to other busy airports.
Having a stopover between flights, may be hazardous to your health.
However the way that this is going to be turned into a true pandemic and get out of control would be for it to get a stranglehold in a "slum" area, with a few thousand people, who are to poor to get to a doctor or cant afford to miss work, who then spread it out via people going into / out of the "slum" area, infecting an even larger population.
For example, if any area of 100 people get infected, and they pass on to 10 people, you then have 1000 infected who pass it on to 10000 people, and so on so on, before they even realize they are infected.
Also with those who have a "macho" mentality, and pass it off as a regular flu, they will potentially infect a larger number of people, before either deciding to go to hospital or dieing of it.
At this point, organizations like the WHO are probably less conserned with current totals as they are with the POTENTIAL of this virus.
Luckily, I have a homebased job, and don't go around large groups of people, so not to worried.
Outlook / outlook express is an email client that resides on the computer. If pop is used, this then downloads all emails off of the server to the client computer.
Squirrelmail is a webbased php program for accessing email. This keeps emails on the server.
Outlook / outlook express, setup to use IMAP rather then POP will result in emails not being lost if client computer gets virus, as the emails will be saved on the server.

"I would also point out that you can run Windows on a Mac, but NOT vice versa. Is that monopolistic practice?"
You can run a windows on a Mac, but only on newer Macs. (and its not running windows on the mac OS, just running it on the hardware, almost like using dual boot on pc's)
Regarding running Mac on Windows, dont you mean running Mac on a non apple pc?
Which by the way, thats not M$ fault. Thats Apples fault. The OS specifically checks to see if its running on apple hardware.
The one company that was putting out Mac OS on non apple PC's is being sued by apple.
Turns out, one of them damn IP "companies" (you know, the ones whos only existense is to sue for copyrights) found that they held the copyright on the letter t (but not T) from a screw up at the US patent office.
Cisco was just the first company that they found to be violating their IP and they sent a cease and desist order on the letter t's usage.
Cisco promptly removed all instances of t from their website until such time as they were able to negotiate a licensing agreement.
Keep an eye out for other sites who will the removing all instances of t or replacing t with T.

Why not
use it as a storage in datacenters, then put the datacenters in space?
You have the cooling needed from space, then power from the sun.

Simple solution
Perhaps the zodiac killer used a cylinder when encrypitng.
1. wrap a 1/4 inch ribbon around a cylinderical object.
2. write out message in plain text.
3. unwrap ribbon
4. cut ribbon every 17 letters
5. line up each strip under each other.
6. Decide what symbol you want for each letter and then convert each letter to symbol
7. Copy only the codes to the paper you send out
Doing this, if you were to use frequency analysis you would end up with gibberish, so you must do the following:
1. Use frequency analysis to get the "plain text" which would look like gibberish
2. Take this "plain text" paper and cut into strips
3. wrap it around a cylinder.
Of course for this to work, you need to know the diameter of the original cylinder, else you just end up with givverish.
How to make profit:
1. Put out two devices (iphone / ipad) and eventually realize that you have market saturation.
2. Setup so that people can move one device towards another vertically to perform transfers.
3. Watch as your users start dropping their iphones onto the ipads. Make sure its not covered under warantee.
4. Profit.
Now...
...they need to reverse it and allow you to put in gold and get cash.
Oh wait, with updating every 10mins, someone would stay standing at the machine:
1. gold drops below a certain amount, buy more gold.
2. gold goes up a bit, deposit it for money.
Follow throughout an 8 hour day for a week or two.
Eventual solution...
First of all, right now, my g/f has an older mac that was running fine until the power supply failed. Unfortunantly I can not replace this with an off the shelf replacement (about $40) because Apple decided to use a non-standard pin out. The cost for a replacement? $200 (give or take)

Google TV...
... something I am glad I do not / will nto use.
Why spend money on a new tv that can support it, when I can use that money on a good custom built computer and send the signal to the tv via svideo cable?
I can watch hulu on my tv unlike anyone using google tv.
If it was apple...
it would cost $400 for a conversion kit, and they probably ain't selling coversion kits.
Who decides...
..if the information contains privacy information?
To find out, someone would have to read it, and that may break many privacy laws in itself.
They are...
probably using a single SSL certificate being shared across multiple domains/subdomains. Have seen places try to do this, and never ends well.
Well...
... if those in space got nothing else to watch then earth broadcasts, really gotta feel sorry for them.
Of course one of the first if not THE first broadcasts they would have seen would have been Hitlers speach during the 1936 Summer Olympics.
Perhaps...

A mid size/large electro magnet, setup in a partially degrading orbit.
First, you put it at the highest orbit you can, allow it to circle, slowely leaving orbit heading to earth.
Along its trip, it collect any metallic objects in orbit.
Then, you either have rockets attached to send it back into a higher orbit for later pickup, or allow it to enter atmosphere to burn up.

Yet.
I for one
welcome our robotic carp overloards.
Seriously however, how long before a shark mistakes it for food?
Will they respond to fishermen? Will there be contests to see who catches the biggest robo-fish?
Will we one day have robo-whales?
Hmm robo whales, add viewports and compartments and you have a new travel industry.
sooo...
Not trying to defend MS but:
Outlook / outlook express is an email client that resides on the computer. If pop is used, this then downloads all emails off of the server to the client computer.
Squirrelmail is a webbased php program for accessing email. This keeps emails on the server.
Outlook / outlook express, setup to use IMAP rather then POP will result in emails not being lost if client computer gets virus, as the emails will be saved on the server.
How long before he quits receiving emails because the tech staff forgot that he saves all emails, and the storage is only 10mb
I would buy that for a dollar..
I think they have a good idea, the US could use more factories.
However I think if they do get the money, they should be required that all production is maintained in the US for at least 30 years.
After that time, it may be to costly/hard to outsource.

Cease and desist
Turns out, one of them damn IP "companies" (you know, the ones whos only existense is to sue for copyrights) found that they held the copyright on the letter t (but not T) from a screw up at the US patent office.
Cisco was just the first company that they found to be violating their IP and they sent a cease and desist order on the letter t's usage.
Cisco promptly removed all instances of t from their website until such time as they were able to negotiate a licensing agreement.
Keep an eye out for other sites who will the removing all instances of t or replacing t with T.
amanfromMars
Is that really amanfromMars?
His reply just made to much sense.
