Unless they actually employ the people directly, or set out safety standards and then inspect to ensure the standards are being met, they are just as responsible for every death as clothing manufacturers are for having clothes made in sweat shops, or Apple is for the standards at factories making their iToys. (not singling Apple out here for any reason but its the most well known).
If I was using contractors, one death down the chain doing a job I ordered would be enough for me to 'discuss' the contract with the people and consider cutting out middle men and employ/contract directly to the people doing the job!
Depends on your hands, my 4" Galaxy is fine, but a but small for my hands really...
I am looking forward to the SGS3 4.8" screen, that will fit my hands much better...
Yes for a girl the iPhone is a great size, I always said the iPhone is a perfect girls phone but for a man with man sized hands, a 4" screen is the smallest that is really practical for a touch screen device, and bigger is better...
Sounds like a nice system you added, I've been thinking of doing that myself!
And I agree with the speed, sometimes going faster than the limit is needed to be safe, but in general our limits are not sensible anyway, too low on motorways, often too high near schools..
Speed itself is not dangerous, inappropriate speed can be.
I for one would like to see more police on our roads!
I get what you mean, personally if I want to see something now, I buy it...
The problem is when you CAN'T buy it...
For example:
So your a fan of series XYZ, it is shown in the USA on a Friday, but take 4 weeks until that episode is shown in the UK..
As a member of fan blogs/clubs, your likely to read/see something about the episode before you get to watch it., spoiling your , OR you can torrent it and watch it and join in the discussions.
I am not saying torrenting is right, but it is the only way for that person to enjoy the series and the community around it..
A solution is needed, as it hurts advertising revenue, simply put the fan would watch it live, if it was within say 24 hours of it being broadcast first, and I suspect a decent subscription service that makes the show available after first broadcast would be very welcome!
World phones? is that the US of A your in? calling a phone that in Blighty would mean it would need to work everywhere, i.e. some kind of Satellite Phone I would assume.
As for HSPA+ being 4G? last I looked, UK networks are NOT calling it 4G, and they are making a big deal out of going for new 4G licenses.... So there is no non-trial 4G in the UK, hence the 4G iPad cannot use 4G in the UK...
but do I need faster than 6Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up? No
That is what I get on my phone with Three.
I can stream video, play games & video chat smoothly...
I'd love my car to have some autonomy, motorway driving is tiresome, so to be able to do something else while the car drove? brilliant. as long as its not only autonomous i'd buy it....
if my car had the self parking (i.e. motors to control the steering), i'd be hacking it to self drive!
I won't step foot in that shop.. It always feels like their used car salesmen...
I prefer CarPhone Warehouse when getting a new phone.... They usually have the real phones available to play with, and i've often asked to try a new phone, and they open a new box for me to try as they've just got them in...
Oh HAL has to be my desktop screen when I get it, and assuming you can get it to speak back at you (I am sure that there must be a way if its not default) a hal sounding voice is a must!
What I dont get is how in the fens we have to have pumps to stop us from becoming a bog again, but STILL have water restrictions? what are they doing with all that pumped water I see flowing out towards the sea every day?
Why does the government still buy windows? lets switch it all over to open source? surely it would be cheaper to hire a dedicated UK wide support team for Linux, than it would be to keep paying for windows?
It just seems counter intuitive, buy windows, and send our money to the US of A, when we could use Linux and spend the money to hire local techies to support the transition and keep everything working afterwards.
But then again this is government procurement, there is no sense to it...
Its like the government cant realise £1 spent here is better than spending ~£0.70 abroad, why? because you get the VAT and you get the income/corporation taxes... Plus it encourages growth, which leads to more purchases and more tax!
i like the idea, can't see how its patentable, there is plenty of prior art, and this is evolution due to technology becoming available, not an inovation.
Totally agree, with apple and its dubious patents on design (who would grant them, and what idiot judge thinks the Galaxy tablet could be mistaken for an ipad)
Then samsung, who is using FRAND patents...
Personally I don't like iphones, I think iPads are OK for kids, but their macbook airs are quite nice..
on the other hand, I love the SGS & SGS2, and their tvs are damn good...
Who wins? who cares as long as samsung and apple keep making products for consumers to buy... in the end it will only be licensing or slight changes in design that will happen...
Google protecting its employees? I'm actually quite impressed, no matter what their real reasons, its stopping any employee from being dragged into this just for driving a car!
I can forgive google for snooping un-encrypted data, since its unencrypted, and anyone using an open wifi network should know that their data is free for the world to see!
I've seen the improvement in gps since using wifi to assist, its a great idea, now all we need is some form of easy feedback for google maps/navigation to help fix the few times they don't tell you in time, or give bad instructions!
The experiment sounded quite simple to me, I am surprised no one has thought of doing it before, surely its obviously a great way to generate random numbers (and I am no crypto nerd either, I just know more randomness is good for cyphers, the rest I leave up to the experts)
Do they consider an artistic nude by a famous artist porn?
It is just censorship in another form, once the ISP's show they can do it, then the gov will slowely creep what they censor until were restricted more than China..
I for one am going to write an email to my MP right now!
I am a landlord myself, and I would never dream of entering my tennets home without prior notification and I would always prefer them present, while their renting from me, its their home and I won't violate it! I hope that landlord got locked up for what he did!
If someone walked in on me unannounced in my home, they should expect to be physically incapacitated & restrained before I ask who they are, I don't care who they are, in my mind an intruder is a deadly threat to my family & me until they are secured and identified...
My Sony Freeview TV does... My New Samsung does.... just because they have defaults, it doesn't mean you cant change them! from what I know its just sky who limit them... (maybe freesat? never tried to change them)
It is different, my car can do around 140mph, and I can take it to a track in the UK and do it...
IF I buy a 3G phone, it will work in the country I buy it, I don't expect it to work over all different countries unless specifically brought for that, BUT if I buy a 4G device and a contract for it, I expect it to have 4G available..
The fact is the 4G device isn't even 4G really... Its a bit of a fraud.. its 3.5G at most...
Londons Burning, Fetch the Engines... Fire Fire... Please hold...
"Your call is important to us, we are sorry for the delay.."
What a load of nonsense! we must stop this... I hope the person who signs the order is one of the people held responsible when someone dies due to this decision!
And lets be honest, privatizing a service is bound to lead to lower quality, forget saving a pitiful 5million, i'd rather save lives!
Wings, motors, batteries & controllers, just augment the human... Must be possible... well if they can fly with pure man power(pedel) augmented is fully possible!
It makes you wonder whether they actually have brains inside those skulls?
No wonder our economy is in the toilet, the inmates are running the asylum!
Its like the stupid decision to buy trains from Germany when we build them in the UK, don't they realize that keeping people employed improves the economy, that in turn means more tax revenue meaning over the life of the project, keeping it in the UK is financially better.
It just goes to show that the decision makers can't handle the information..
If it was some kind of dirigible/weather balloon, I can see this being within the realms of possibility.... If they have the right minds behind it that is....
Who fancies coming up with a standard for a constellation of low cost dirigible network access nodes?
No central owner, just build, launch and they self configure!
Really? I've not been asked and I do it all the time, especially on films to check reviews before buying... unless there is a massive difference in price, the fact I am there with the film/ in my hand is more important than £1 or £2 difference in price...
There is nothing revolutionary about the screen, its evolutionary, i.e. basic evolution... they upped resolution to something that really is not needed but is nice to have.
There is nothing revolutionary about the ipad, tablets have been around for over a decade, we before ipad hit the scene, the difference now is that the tech has reached a point where they can be powerful as well as handy.
So far i have not seen ONE thing that the ipad can do that has not been done before in one way or another by someone else..
Personally I'd not touch an apple TV , I am still frustrated that the iPad can't play AVI's!
My PHONE plays AVI's, MKV's & any other format I've tried, and that was out of the box, so does my TV... Plus they both can access all the media from my Windows 7 PC, my iPad can't, neither can my Mac Book (well not found software that can yet)..
I do think an Android/Google TV sounds good, but as I've just brought a new TV, so i wont be upgrading that for a good few years...
Big problem there is the delay, IIRC its about 4 seconds round trip.. Much better idea is simpler robots that are able to act independently to orders rather than need a driver/controller..
That is until someone invents an FTL/instant communication system....

Good work! they can work on automated docking at a later date!\
Lets hope their success pushes the ESA into getting a reusable capsule and maybe even some people into funding Skylon!
Re: It used to be a dollar a foot

Re: Don't understand @Dcope
You probably have unlimited data, and you'll use way more if you tether, hence they have tethering and non tethering plans...
So an extra £5/month for unlimited tethering seems fair to me...
Re: Any minute now....
I agree with you, I'm happy to pay my TV license, it gives me plenty of content I enjoy, and I include Radio in that as well.
I won't pay for SKY, because it has adverts.. If it was Ad Free, i'd be happy to pay, but I won't pay for ads..
There is plenty on Free Sat that I can enjoy, and the adverts are not THAT bad if your not watching ITV....
Re: Three price increases
2 hours and 4 motorways later, 3 gave me streaming media the whole way!
I have to say Three are the only network with a truly unlimited data plan AND fast coverage anywhere I need to use it...
I look forward to seeing the new tablets/phones from google, so far i've not been that impressed with the tablet market...
I just hope they do keep Android free or at a low low cost to other manufacturers.

I am sure these games will be pleased for the advertising!
I wonder how many people here will actually part with their cash to help?
Ok, so the way I read it is, BAE don't want to fit the catapults, so give a stupid quote...
We instead have to use SVTOL aircraft, but sell off our harriers..
So we have to buy the F35B as planned...
But really, aren't we just going to be launching hundreds of drones and a few fighters by the time this is ready???
Haha loved the video, I was expecting a real ground effect vehicle, but that is a pretty good fake!
Lets see how long until a local car company tries to copy it....
Maybe if the roads had embedded copper coils they could do it...
Hmmm reminds me of Syndicate...
1984?
1984 is arriving a bit later than expected...
I'd love my car to have some autonomy, motorway driving is tiresome, so to be able to do something else while the car drove? brilliant. as long as its not only autonomous i'd buy it....

Re: Can't be bothered to the read the samey Fandroid posts...
iphone is too tiny, its an ok smart phone... but too tiny for a man to use comfortably...
Plus unlike the iphone, my 2 year old SGS can...
play any video format
change batteries (essential, essential when traveling)
add 32Gb sd card, and change at will!
Switch sims in seconds (using standard sims, essential when traveling)
Play Video/Pictures to my TV direct from my phone (wireless via DLNA)
Navigate with built in turn by turn navigation (I am sure there must be an app on iPhone, but I really like google navigate)
I could list more, but thats a few of the major features that I use almost daily...
Re: Bloody hell!
Oh HAL has to be my desktop screen when I get it, and assuming you can get it to speak back at you (I am sure that there must be a way if its not default) a hal sounding voice is a must!
BYOD is a foolish idea, keeping everything organised is what is needed, giving employees the SAME device means one config.
SUPPORT for BYOD is fine, but only as a second to providing equipment
(i.e. supply them a linux desktop and an android phone, if they want iPhones and Macs, then they can use their own device)
Lets get these desalination plants built!!!
What I dont get is how in the fens we have to have pumps to stop us from becoming a bog again, but STILL have water restrictions? what are they doing with all that pumped water I see flowing out towards the sea every day?
Re: Britain's IP laws...... We are all Criminals
Good for you winning your case, I think commercial use should always be paid for!
I think we need a fair use for personal use, mainly format shifting.
I.E. CD -> MP3, DVD -> HDD
Discounts for the government??
Why does the government still buy windows? lets switch it all over to open source? surely it would be cheaper to hire a dedicated UK wide support team for Linux, than it would be to keep paying for windows?

Re: Not going to happen
No, since the military has no need for anatomically correct bots, they can build bots for war already.. .
Re: Am I the only person that quite enjoyed
No, I did enjoy it a bit, mainly for the effects, but it still sucked compared to the original film or the book...
Re: Am I the only one

Errr hasn't push email been around since IMAP?
Doesn't MS have Push email in exchange?
Surely there is way too much prior art for push email...
Personally I use IMAP and get instant notifications...
What I don't get is why we don't make our own fighters? surely if the French can do it, and the Americans can do it, we can do it??
This whole F35 project has taken what 20 years to get finished? really it takes THAT long to design and build them?
I say lets go for catapults, rent a few aircraft for now, and build our own combat planes in future!

This cant work
How will this work???
What is porn?
How will they detect that it is a porn site?
Do they consider a streaker porn?
Do they consider a nudist porn?
Do they consider an artistic nude by a famous artist porn?

It sounds to me like they are just using apps to show how fast it is... i.e. they have an app for that..
And it sounded like the people smoked didn't realize exactly how to do things...
IF i had Facebook on my android phone, its like 2 taps to upload a photo after taking it...
Re: The Truth About Exercise
Another chivalrous gentlemen, amazing,,,
Now, how many times have you been slapped for offering your seat? or looked at funny for holding the door for a stranger?
I always stand on short bus journeys, and always on the tube!

Now, why don't they whack a heat shield. parachute, a few padded seats and a life support system in there and make it a manned space tug??
Surely it cant be THAT hard to convert the ATV into a manned vehicle?
While I think its fake, I like the idea..
Wings, motors, batteries & controllers, just augment the human... Must be possible... well if they can fly with pure man power(pedel) augmented is fully possible!

Just void all software patents and 'look n feel' patents..... then use electroshock therapy on anyone who thinks they are a good idea....
