Someone else crazy enough to tuck in behind a truck on the motorway then: I got nearly 800 miles from a diesel 106 commuting from Bristol to Gloucester.
Apparently the closer you go the more economy you get per mile according to the Mythbusters: http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tech-transport/follow-that-truck.html
I would get pretty close and knew I'd be minced if anything went wrong.
As to Hummers and their demise, about time but they will always be around in one form or another as there are many people in the world that need an extension to thier ego/ penis size/ height. As for them being safe due to size, indeed this is true as you will definitely kill all the folk in the car you crash into. But what the hey, as long as you're ok.
Mine's the one with the Evil Knievel picture and white tassels.
Not all true dude. There was one going round that was for soldiers to get compensation for every injury they got, not just the 3 worst (I think some guy had over 70 in total and was dependent upon his parents for the rest of his miserable life, he got 200k!)
The petition managed to raise the awareness to many, including non services folk. But then again the subject got onto the BBC website front page...
OOXML will not, nobody gives a shit except those here who are aware of how dangerous a company is when it aims to aggressively monopolise parts of the computing world.
I'm hoping for some suggestions as to what someone can do to help keep competition in computing.
Paris says 'Trying to avoid OOXML, if it is ever more than just a joke shop standard, would be a start'. Thanks Paris, you're so wise... like an owl.
So the majority of people don't like what's happening. So, what are you going to do? Sit at your pc and rant? Come on, there must be something you can do.
I've not seen an E-petition link yet (for those that don't know: UK gov has an online petition thing going on, quite effective sometimes).
Why not publish the BSI email so the rest of us can take a bite without having to trawl the BSI site for it in our very short lunch breaks. Same with ISO.
There's some clever folk here with piles of knowledge, direct that towards the solution not the problem (sorry, sounds like managerial bs, but it's true).
Now I must scurry back to my hole where I toil with MS Sharepoint ffs...
EADS have such a wealth of successful projects under their belt there's no way this will be a multi-billion blunder: the NHS system, for example, was an amazing success.
I won't go into more examples as the overuse of sarcasm may start to burn your eyes...
Nintendo deserve the success: they've moved away from the usual thumb bashing, big graphics machines and totally turned the console world on its head.
Nintendo has always been about playability for me (how many people here remember drunken 4 player Goldeneye on the N64? Simple, but so fun). The Wii has just increased the fun factor. I had 4 mates, all hardened PC game geeks, playing Wii for hours laughing like mad and all said at the end of the night, "I'm getting one!".
Any console that my Mum, in her 50s, can play has been created by people who seriously know what they're doing and where the gaming world is heading. All Sony and Micro$hite can do is spread rumours of the danger of people throwing the controllers about.
Fellow Reg monkeys, give the Wii a try as you won't be disappointed (unless you can't get hold of one as the shops have all run out)
If you don't like a certain bunch of people go somewhere else. If you can't get a precious lounger go find one or make one from lollipop sticks and horse hair.
What about the Greater Tit, the Shag, the Boobie? There are many more animals that will loose their name. Maybe they could form a union and go on strike.

IT? Seconded
Jeez, I'll go to Empire for movie news. Stick to what you're best at and are still respected for Reg people.
Looks alright
But as long as the stories are still entertaining I really don't give two hoots how it looks.

Can we agree on something?
That we use the term 'Office XML', then we'll be regarding it as what it truly is.

Ignore Me
My EDS hatred is blinding me to the extra A.
Well at least they've got EADS on the team!

Scaremongering
>Spewing fear and panick...and coming from an Israeli associated with the US >Govt...we haven't heard this before now have we?
We all should live in fear and let the government strip us of any privacy we have in the name of national security!
*bends over*

Why...
does anyone care?
If you don't like a certain bunch of people go somewhere else. If you can't get a precious lounger go find one or make one from lollipop sticks and horse hair.

Not just Blue Tits!
