"Teabagging, only the Christian right could take a gay sex act and turn into something sordid and disgusting" - Stephen Colbert

Unless you meant a different kind of teabaging.

The review was right about one thing, the last chapter is a massive anti-climax, being able to "win" the massive climactic battle with just 8 shots is a little dissapointing, not exactly a great bit of level design.

fly meet ointment

The only problem with the dropping BSkyB share price is that News Corps is dropping even faster, down 7% today 12% on the week. It keeps going at that rate News Corp won't be trying to buy BSkyB they'll be too busy avoiding take overs.

Now wouldn't that be a shame?

Difficult choice

Obviously anyone who doesn't vote for "The Stars My Destination" is wrong and needs therapy, but on the other hand I just know that Hollywood would complete clusterfuck of it by the time it ended up on the screen.

What Analysis??

Any chance the powers that be can re-subtitle this article as Opinion or even Soapbox ?

The anti-RAF, pro-Navy bias is just getting ridiculous. We know that Lewis used to work for the Navy, but is there even the remotest possibilty that he can take of those navy-blue tinted spectacles when he's trying to be a journo?

Take this shining example for the article :

"By all means, we might have kept some jets just in case of unforeseen contingencies: the comparatively small Harrier force, and/or perhaps some cheap and capable F-18s from America, would have been good choices both on grounds of cost and ability to fly from carriers. This last is something that neither the Eurofighter nor the Typhoon can do, meaning that they must spend much of their flight time in transit across the Med rather than in the "contested" skies above Libya - and that heroically expensive air-to-air tanking is required to get them there at all."

We get it Lewis, you think fast jets a utter shite when piloted by the RAF, but are totally essential if the Navy are piloting them. Any chance that the next article about anything vaguely military won't end up blaming the RAF's insistance on flying planes as the cause what ever the article is about?

Thought not.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Hmm, who to believe?

In the blue corner, a journo who spent the week after the tsunami saying the situation couldn't possibly get worse. And every time he said it, things got worse.

In the red corner the people who are having to deal with it on the ground

Tricky one that.

Andrew the Invertebrate

there, fixed that for you

I remember the kit because

My big brother bought one of the kit versions with his birthday money and savings from his paper round. A week after he bought it they dropped the price on the pre-built verion to be the same as the kit version, oh how I laughed.

Then after assembling it with the help of a neighbour with a soldering iron, it didn't work, I laughed more.

It got sent back to the factory, where it was tested and it turned that several of the components were duds, so they sent back a fully built one.

So all the effort, grief and waiting to try to save a few pounds, which didn't really happen either. Still makes me smile.

Andrew the Invertebrate

and if I remember correctly

from the same episode, St Stephen of Fry also noted that the rail links to Hiroshima were back in place just 24 hours after the bombing, allowing Tsutomu Yamaguchi to make the trip to Nagasaki.

All the Japanese military would have need to cripple the British rail system would have been a small snow maker near the East Coast mainline.

Andrew the Invertebrate

well strictly speaking

that should be "Unload in the Pink Ring of Love", but I'm guessing even the editorial team have limits

Andrew the Invertebrate

So what's the story going to be?

Batman Begins - The Long Halloween

The Dark Knight - The Killing Joke

so what's it going to be this time round?

Also why Bane? Deacon Joseph Blackfire would have more fun

Andrew the Invertebrate

Not really the first....

slavery only became illegal in the UK on April 6th 2010, so there might have been one or two countries ahead of us there.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Could we make a minor change to provider pays?

Trying to get the BBC to cough up so that iPlayer is a stupid idea and should stopped dead in it's tracks.

However all off those irritating little adverts that clutter the place up, can't we at least get the advertisers to pay for the bandwith that they take up. If you want to sell me stuff that's one thing, asking me to pay to let you do it, well that's a whole other thing.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Andrew the Invertebrate

Over-reach this

So has nothing changed in the States in the last 116 years?

Although it would explain a great deal about the average "evil non-complier" if thier mental processes were stuck in the 19th Century.

Andrew the Invertebrate

seriously???

what was originally mandated was to count the number of white people, the number of freed black people and only three fifths of enslaved blacks, indians weren't to be counted at all.

The original sprit of the consitution was that only white people's views counted.

It took 90 years and the 14th Amendment to change that particular piece of wisdom, all of which shows that the needs of census change over time and the US constitution was never meant to be set in stone and isn't something that should be hidden behind when logic and reason are against you

But Sarah...

why are you turning into an elephant?

Andrew the Invertebrate

not so much with the singing

If it had been sung completely that would be Grand Opera, not to be confused the Grand Ole Opry. But if you do want to tell them apart, the first one has less cowboy boots

Andrew the Invertebrate

Anyone for Tea?

Well hopefully all the rest of the right wing, nut job, teabaggers like yourself will have actively stood in the way of the census, so as not to provide an accurate count. That way the states with the more than average numbers of right wing, nut job, teabaggers will have less representation in terms of numbers of congressmen and electoral college votes in the 2012 elections.

Andrew the Invertebrate
Terminator

the writers heads weren't the problem

Ron Moore planned on having 5 major story arcs for the whole show, much like Babylon 5.

Because it's a new show season 1 gets 13 episodes, which is relatively short but Ron Moore is happy with. All the episodes are well paced and so is the season 1 story arc.

The show gets huge acclaim and show moves, at the instance of the commisioning tv network, to 20 episodes a season and so the writers have to stretch the season 2 story arc over 7 more episodes, which brings in the inevitable filler episodes and loss of focus on the bigger story. Also the show couldn't really do anymore of the "we've just run out of <insert stuff>" episodes after the first season without looking like it'd run out of ideas.

So if we could just get the tv execs out of tv, we'd have much better stuff on the small screen.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Don't worry about Caprica

the shows has been axed and the current run pulled from the schedule. It gets about another 5 episodes next year, presumably containing some hasty rewrites to wrap things up and set up the Cylon war show.

The socio-religious aspects during the first couple of seasons made it really interesting. The Cylons representing Muslim extremists\Al-Queada with thier 9-11 esque attack on the colonies and the subsequent enemy within paranoia, whilst also being 12 disciples of a single God.

And then the Colonials being the US, a supposedly enlightened mostly secular culture that accepts all faith's as having value except one. But is prepared to use suicide bombings as legitimate tactic against thier oppressors.

Also don't him God, you know it doesn't like that name.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Andrew the Invertebrate

Irony, yes we've heard of it

Oh I agree that no-one knows exactly what's going on, and the science is far from "settled".

But crappy pieces of so called journalism where the article contains any number of contradictions and distortions really don't help. So Lewis should just shut up about climate change and go back to writing his twice weekly piece about how the world would be so much better if the MoD just bought all thier kit from the yanks.

Also two minor points :

1 - being called spinless by someone hiding behind the A\C is a little rich.

2 - and the Invertabrate moniker is in "honour" of someone who used to be seen round these parts, but took his ball home some time ago.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Journo, not in the gutter, but drilling for the centre of the Earth

Scientist says :

"We cannot jump to any conclusions based on what we have found during this comparatively short period "

"If the climate were affected in the long term, the Sun should have produced a notable cooling in the first half of the twentieth century, which we know it didn't,"

"It does require verification, but our findings could be too important to not publish them now,"

over long periods of time solar warming probably has little effect on the Earth's temperature one way or the other, as solar activity cycles up and down regularly.

Journo with axe to grind says :

All that can be said with any certainty is that through 2004-2007, the Sun warmed the planet much more powerfully than had been thought.

Much of recent global warming actually caused by Sun.

Lewis stop writing anything about climatology, as you just embaress yourself every time you do

Andrew the Invertebrate

Nice in theory

But how do you enforce a search warrant for the contents of someone's memory? How do you prove that you've forgotten a password or that you've never had the password in the first place.

If you've downloaded the wiki-leaks insurance file how can you prove that you don't have the password, or that it isn't infact your secret stash of terrorist manuals that you've renamed to look like the wiki-leaks file and do really have the password for?

Also if you followed the US system and had "Fruit of the poisonous tree" provisions in the warrants, the exceptions on the search being carried out in good faith would kick in and it would be a legal search.

WTF?

"to focus on its core business"

Seriously, when did catching kiddy fiddlers become a business? Do Ceop'ers get bonus for the amount of child porn they find each month?

Andrew the Invertebrate

Fat Duck v Little Chef

both have menu's from the same guy, so what's the difference?

Andrew the Invertebrate

Now only if .....

they'd make it half a million per breach. So that's the original 5000 Sky customers, plus the 8000 on the second list and the 500 BT customers.

That'd be £6,750,000,000 please.

It might not fill the black hole of debt in the economy, but it would let Lewis have his two carriers with electric catapults along with enough F-18's to blot out the sun.

Really dumb political analysis

Saying that the Lib Dems didn't do well just because of Trident is just plain stupid.

There were any number of reasons that they didn't do well, electoral reform, closer ties with Europe, immigration, tax plans etc, the only Trident got any press was because the other parties were trying to paint them as being weak on defence.

Then of course there is all the tactical voting for the "Not Gordon" party, which favoured the Tories over the Lib Dems.

2/10 Must try harder

" law enforcement and prostitution opponents"

People who oppose both law and enforecement and prostitution, that got to be a might small demographic. Possibly a few hermits or some very extreme loons from either the left or right, but I wouldn't have thought that there were enough of them to have this kind of political clout.

Andrew the Invertebrate

Role Model???

This is the same Lewis Hamilton that didn't leave enough room, didn't brake in time and broke his car about 30 seconds into the race.
