WTF?

IR?!

I doubt many smartphones have IR any more!

Stefing

The San Fran II is also £100 - you can't go wrong really!

Stefing

Been there

Me and one other contractor were given a similar choice, but with a 10% cut, 2 years ago.

Luckily for me they asked him first, he tried to play hardball and he got the chop - I didn't risk it.

A couple of month's later he had to come crawling back.

Only now have they started to cut into the tumorous mass of managers that's choking the company,..

Re: Android UI issues?

Android on phones and tablets is substantially different in appearance, Gingerbread was phone only, Honeycomb tablet only, Ice Cream Sandwich converges and progresses them.

Sent from my bloody brilliant 5 core Asus Transformer Prime (which happily runs at up to 1.6 GHz without getting hot)

Stefing
WTF?

Maffs?

2 out of 7 is equality?

Stefing
Unhappy

I would if I could

I have Degenerative Disc Disease - so more than the slightest bit of exercise isn't really an option.

But HEY! Thanks for reminding me that not only am I in near-constant pain but that my life expectancy is also impacted.

Stefing

I was attempting to re-watch the originals recently but gave up after a few episodes; too much woo-woo mumbo-jumbo superstition instead of real SF stories, but yes the Eagles etc. were awesome and the title sequence is possibly the best of any TV series.

Stefing
Megaphone

An "early adopter" speaks

I got mine on Day 1 of UK release (when Clove, like now, had zero stock) and have had ZERO problems. No "wifi issues". No "GPS issues".

Sounds the like "men, they're all bastards, love" syndrome of the jilted girlfriend.

Stefing
Thumb Down

No

The test allows you to modify the default model when submitting results.

Non story.

Stefing

That was exactly what held me back, but my PC and phone, both of which I would normally be using now, are currently switched off.

Sent from my Prime ;)

Stefing

Follow that approach and you'll never buy any tablet, the market is moving too fast.

Stefing

I have had zero GPS or WiFi problems - but then I have very little use for GPS on a tablet so I've only tested it once (it locked just as fast as my phone)

Stefing

The same as my phone, about 30 seconds to full usability (I have a lot of widgets!)

But

shouldn't an app for the technically inept be aimed at iPhone users?

Stefing
Mushroom

Thanks, Jezza Clarkson

Ah, that'll be why the weather has been COMPLETELY NORMAL of late.

Oh, hang on a minute...

Clearly I need to move to lovely TOTALLY SAFE Fukushima, I hear it's lovely at this time of year.

Stefing
FAIL

Is that a beam in El Reg's eye?

The Register's continued Clarksonesque blustering about Fukushima is a constant embarrassment, saying that wind-power has killed more people is an argument worthy of Creationists.

Stefing
Megaphone

So?

The Guardian's Charles Arthur probably has 1,000 times as many readers as The Register, that doesn't mean The Register should shut up shop.

(Charles Arthur should definitely shut up though)

Stefing

"Market forces"

Very little good ever comes of them!

Stefing

Mmmm, spunk

A car in my neighbourhood has a PROTEIN (or near enough) plate - sneaky!

In Sweden there are, of course, far fewer restrictions, a friend has ANDY B but BOLLOX is also out there I believe.

Stefing

Also

A good list but I would also have included Anvil - much like This is Spinal Tap but THEY'RE REAL.

Also: the ending had me in tears.

Stefing
WTF?

Apple's patenting is beyond ridiculous, you should not be allowed to "own" something that is so obvious and fundamental!

Stefing

Well...

That was his dying breath totally wasted then!

Never trust a man who goes for "natural remedies", even when his life depends on it.

Magical, my arse!

Proof that he is indeed, Satan.

Re: DUR!

The original story didn't contain those links when I posted that comment - otherwise why would I post it?!

"Methinks"!

Stefing

Dur...

It wasn't in the original story - very little was!

The Grauniad...

has better coverage: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/sep/05/dns-hackers-telegraph-interview and http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/sep/05/turkish-hacker-group-diverts-users

"a piece of wood painted black with an Apple logo"

I expect Apple's Army Of Lawyers (TM) to be on the case immediately.

Stefing

Ahem

This is the tablet that El Reg proclaimed undying love for, right?

Stefing
Mushroom

Put down the torches

I know El Reg loves to bash the Goog but a friend of mine could not register on Facebook due to his name - getting on Google+? No problem.

To get onto Zuckerberg's personal data mining enterprise he had to assume another name and explain to all his friend that, yes, it was indeed he.

No such problem with Google+.

Stefing

But...

And if he's wanted somewhere for eating children?

Stefing
FAIL

Yeah, right

So, the article correctly points out that Murdoch's paper organs hemorrhage money but also claims that they don't wield undue influence - if that is true then why does he have them then, hmm?

Stefing

Muchadoaboutbuggerall

My friend - a Mr. Chainsaw - was blocked from Facebook for years, no arguments about it being his stage name were any use, or that there were other users already on Facebook with the same surname.

Google+? No problem.

Stefing

Be all modern and fancy like

Appending a + suffix to your email address comes in very handy!

e.g. myname+dodgyhostels@gmail.com will be delivered to myname@gmail.com, handy for filtering and fingering. Ahem.

Stefing

iZombies

I don't know about Leicester, but the number if people with iPhones in North London is worrying...

Stefing
Big Brother

Meanwhile

Israeli soldiers are murdering unarmed civilians in the illegally occupied West Bank and some people are getting hysterical over T-shirts. Not The Holocaust - T-shirts.

Stefing

"Sympathetic"?!

You either don't get the massively obvious irony and/or you are an idiot.

I suspect both.

Stefing

Sarcasm ahead

Yes and the song "Hitler has only got one ball" is clearly pro-Nazi too.

FFS.

Stefing
Flame

A lot of fuss over...

Was this ever exploited? No.

Would this ever have been exploited? Probably not.

Amazing the amount of media sensationalism there is over this (the front page of The Metro - really?!), it almost makes you wonder if one big tech company might be spending money smearing another... nah - that would never happen!

Stefing
Grenade

Misleading headline du jour

"LEAK" is not the same as "could disclose if attacked" - on that basis I'm leaking my Amex PIN code right now.

Stefing
Coat

I'm not racist, but...

Why are most red-headed women utter babes (hello Karen Gillan!) when most red-headed men are downright painful to the eye (goodbye please Mick Hucknall)?

Stefing

Fastest?

In the majority of tests the LG Optimus 2X actually beats it but they are (currently) the top 2.

Stefing

Panic! Less than 100 tethering apps available!

https://market.android.com/search?q=tether&so=1&c=apps

Stefing
Grenade

Open means never having to have to say I can't

On my LG Optimus 2X under 2.2 I happily used the built in tethering / portable hotspot option, it's still there under the newly installed 2.3 - I guess these options are removed for our cousins in the "Land of the Free"? Just flash a custom ROM then!

Stefing
Grenade

I own one

I bought mine at the end of last month for £430 and am delighted with it (I previously owned a G1 and a Nexus One)

It's easily rooted and there are already a handful of custom ROMs out there with more coming every day - I've opted for pretty much stock Android, others like to keep more LG elements.

True the touch screen does need a slightly firmer touch but in terms of speed it DESTROYS all single processor phones, e.g. it benchmarks as 3 times faster than the Galaxy S mentioned in the article and even pips the yet to be generally available (and more expensive) Motorola Atrix.

Stefing
FAIL

Clarksonesque

I'll stick with the opinions of experts rather than journalists, thanks.

Stefing
Grenade

All this week - on El Reg

Black is white!

Unsafe is safe!

Critical is also safe!

Level 6 nuclear emergency? Safe!

The Register is looking increasingly Clarksonesque - it's frankly embarrassing.

Stefing
WTF?

El Reg hearts nukes

The Register's reporting has hit Clarkson levels of bias.

A new low,

Stefing
Grenade

Some people...

@ James Pickett

So, what do you suggest? Windmills?

<sarcasm>

Yes, that's exactly what I am suggesting because there aren't any other alternatives.

</sarcasm>

Now go and watch Top Gear like a good little commentard.

Stefing

Unsafe at any speed

Japan is possibly the most technologically advanced country in the world.

It is certainly the most prepared for earthquakes and the Japanese are famously fastidious.

And still we get two explosions at nuclear plants with possibly more on the way.

NUCLEAR POWER IS JUST NOT WORTH IT.

Stefing

Believe it or not!

A lot of Brits believe that they have special magic invisible friend - one that lives in the sky forever and ever and he done made everything just by thinking about it! And if you say that he doesn't then he do make you go to a bad place under the ground where you will burn and burn and nasty men with horns will prod you with sticks FOREVER - it's true!
