with a good food bar attached, and a big outdoor area which is great in the summer even if the view is the corregated steel of the industrial estate next door. as another poster mentioned the fear of tripping down those concrete steps is a huge one though....
as for the name.. change it. who cares? you think people are going there for the name? somebody here said about great hobbit themed cocktails... wtf its just tramp juice to get students pissed quickly. do you read about them drinking cocktails in the book? think not.
as for the use of the name.... well could almost be forgiven given the age.but covering your walls and loyalty cards with pictures from the film... seriously who in their right mind would do that in this day and age? deserves all that coming to them from that angle.
and fry getting involved? simple one fry, quit the film. if you don't you're a damn schill. happy to gain yet more fame from being the stupid person's idea of a clever person ( (c) julie burchill ) yet happy to take the money to appear in the film. which will be shit anyway because its martin 'i cant act for toffees' freeman in the *lead role* *yet again*. Has nothing been learnt from the hitchikers movie?
i've got one, dont think its ugly. and nobody has said anything like that, just been impressed by it.
the ability to have to the keyboard clip on (with extra battery) is the killer feature. yeah its ok to dick about reading emails and watching videos of lolcats being petted by hipsters, but if you've got to do some work in a reasonable time, a real keyboard is unbeatable.
touchscreen? internet? grid of icons? - Handspring!
I remember trialing a corporate service in about 2001, a handspring phone with a gsm data modem attached at the back and surfing the web (incredibly slowly mind). not a million miles from iphone as a user experience. of course add years of improvement in mobile processing, color screen, grafics co-processors etc you get something slicker. but the basics was there.
but news should never be entertainment. if sky were embedded with the looters it probably made it look cool and maybe some people went out on the strength of it.
but i'd like to know how much they paid the said looters for safe passage. we've all seen the vid of the injured youth being mugged. you telling me that a gang of these peeps are going after trainers and crappy tellys when the cameraman has close to £100k in gear on his shoulder?
pull the other one. expose sky for paying money to criminals.
when i move to a position of benelovent dictatorship this is one of things I will come down hard on.
If you can't be bothered to think up an original word to describe your product you have no NO *NO* rights to the individual words you've welded together. think of the problems with easy jet etc.
in fact even raising it in my new world order would mean your website got banned and the CEO was sentanced to an ass raping by Brian Blessed in full Flash Gorden outfitbefore being unblocked (broadcast live on skype - another name you can't really arse around with if you'll pardon the pun)
seriously, plenty of others have got round it like, erm, amazon, bing, hulu, boxee, google,... list could go on forever. its only shit people that have to weld words together.
specifically the pro end. their enterprise support has been woeful at best. now they've killed xsan hardware. lion server is crippled, xsan client is built in. FCP turns into FCA (final cut for amateurs) with no support for xsan (or any shared system).
Color? $30k a seat till apple bought it. now killed it with no replacement in site. same as shake.
mac pros are the next one to go (really i don't know why anybody bought them anway with fcp only using one core. though they could have after effects running i suppose to justify it)
and with the growth of the ipad, OSX is starting to look risky.
none of these things are about the products - but why waste good talent on products that get very little in return compared to the ipad?
did some tech support for a uk company in the 90s...
that did some work for govt. secret areas were separate, locked and connected to a separate set of servers (locked room from main server aisle) via fibre. that room had NO other external data connections. If any of us were in there we had to have somebody else in the room. bust hard drives went into a locked safe in that room until we did a secure rubbish run.
that.s how you keep things safe. can i have my £300,000,000 security consulting fee now please?
to somebody who has never rejected my mostly drunk rantings I salute you
ok so its 4am and i've just woken up from another drink related snooze to, err, have some more drink and empty the fridge of anything edible without cooking,,, again...
where was I? oh yeah. best wishes for the future, when you open a rival the el reg do let me know :)
Say I write something slanderous in an employee report. save document. come back from lunch and reconsider. delete offending remark. I've still got a saved copy of my slanderous document. sitting in versions.
along comes johnny employee with a data protection request, where you have to give him everything you've got on him. including your slanderous document revision.
i hope versions has a button to extract all versions of all files as well, otherwise some poor bastard is going to have to go through and save every version of every file.
i think UK biz might need to know about this before using it.
my first computing job - working on a vax cluster and all the individual projects the company ran were charged on cpu usage, storage and printing. (and first experience of something the size of a small car being replaced with a desktop unit with more power)
we *have* kind of reverted back there with corporate email/calender servers, gmail etc. instead of the vt100 clients we now have smartphones and chrome netbooks. the 'dumb terminals' might be 'smarter' but the centralisation is what we all really need to make the information available everywhere.
now there's faith in your own technology. and here's us running their now obsolete hardware with a 'hot backup' that only works if *every single client* is turned on.
heres what i am messing about with http://mbed.org/handbook/mbed-NXP-LPC1768
arm,96 mhz, built in ethernet phy-just add a magjack. this is about £45 at the moment.
£15 for this seems damn cheap for so much extra performance.
play with the mbed though its good fun. if you are looking to create a game, have a look at http://www.arduino.cc/ with the gameduino shield http://excamera.com/sphinx/gameduino/
here's what I propose for the world. tax on income, not profit. anything else invites misuse. even just a couple of percent i reckon would sort everything out.
"It appears that you've exceeded the maximum number of posts you can view"
"To unlock the forum and continue viewing messages, all you need to do is to Register for a free account. The entire process takes just a few minutes so create your account now and view as many threads as you like! "
try reading more than a certain number of messages and you get that. no idea what the limit is, i get that every time now.
i think you missed the point. its register to READ the forum. that's a bad sign. If el reg was register to read how many readers would it have? arsing around with yet another random sign in just to read something? f. off!
and you said -> " being way off target is unforgiveable." but I forgive you as its easter.
as for noise, my PCH squeals like a stuck pig for about 15 mins after being turned on with a faulty fan. i'm not the only one with this problem i noticed *before* they stopped randoms reading their forums.
as for ui's anything that doesn't let you change mistaken files from inside the UI is useless for consumers.
still want the gigabit fixed, takes forever to copy files up to the unraid server.
sounds very similar. nice idea, crappy firmware leaving things you bought it for not working. i've got a PCH A200 after over a year i still don't have gigabit ethernet working. their developers reasurre everybody that they've got it working there, but over here, in the real world, nada.
instead of fixing the shit you bought the box for, they've added a crappy and slow jukebox system, even though there are plenty of 3rd party products that can do that for you.
it has FINALLY got iplayer support, but when I tried it there seems to be a frame dropping problem you can see in pans and end credits.
i don't know if they've fixed it because their offical support site, networkedmediatank.com now requires you to register JUST TO READ IT. if there's a greater warning about appaling firmware problems i'd like to see it.
seriously valve, why did you pick such a divisive figure? for everbody who loves merchant and gervais and their brand of 'humour' and 'acting' i can find 10 people who would rather be kicked in the testicles than listen to their childish 'ironic' prattle and sub am-dram performances
an ugly piece of angular metal crap. and it looks like they've installed it in the middle of trafalgar square. way to ruin hundreds of tourists photos.... not seen anything so inappropriate since thousands of fuckwits were allows to arse about on the spare plinth.
as much i think java is a pox ridden bastard of a quiche eater's language now run by people I don't trust, it's much nicer than objective C which took a terse, easy to make spectacular failures language and bolt on a bunch of ugly crap that makes code *less* readable.
i'd rather program in that poor excuse of a language known as python than objective c.
OK, any interference with program code loaded into memory is a voilation of dmca? so in windows those DLLs that get loaded automatically at process start that can intercept any system call - of which there are loads - sue them as well. its interfered.
like the patent rules which say you must protect against any infringement, it should be applied across the board.
unfortunately "open standards" in web browsers means "subtle hacking around weird edge case problems for different browsers". Flash is pretty much write once run anywhere if they've got the plugin and it solves all those problems. I reckon:
low safari use
lots of sites don't test or update for safari quirks so less people use it
force people to write for safari on ipad
boom now the whole app is running on safari
safari can grow market share
he also wants people to write in objective C so they could fairly easily port to native osx. and objective-C is the ugliest language i've seen.
we're going to develop an internal app on adobe air anyway. its got to work on the most number of platforms with the mimum amount of fuss (i.e. not having to work with the foibles of mobile/browsers). sorry iplod users
a) what, no cross platform compatibility? yeah i'm gonna rewrite something just for one platform.
b) no calling other apis? really? isn't that common libraries out of the bloody window? they export APIs. Argue me calling a library you haven't written to do something that might interface with the iphone (i dunno opening a file or something) means you aren't calling an API. look up its definition on wikipedia.
c) oh they want it to be just like the ibollock interface then without some kind of intermediary api. what about this then. http://almost.done21.com/2010/04/adlib-apples-secret-ipad-web-framework/ . guess doing it not straight to APIs is a bad, bad thing.
d) objective-c. uglier than PHP, less easy to read than PERL, with all the drawbacks of C
e) objective-c
f) objective-c
g) i hate objective C
i must say as an enterprise with around a few thousand customers, we will be building in flash/air to support the maximum number of users across multiple platforms. the vagarities of various browsers can sod off its not going html5 as telling people to change their browser is painful.
adobe should just cancel CS for the mac. screw 'em.
ok... i'll put a patent in for "hollywood movie with good acting, good story and good script" and when the technology finally happens for this to be doable I'll be fucking MINTED
and yes the windows API is a great example of mapping OO features into a procedural API. if that's not enough think of the MFC
as the bloke before said... backin 1990 I saw Rationale ADA terminal screens able to be rotated and have the editors react
the american vs abroad rhetoric - surely any normal person would see that all apple's manufacturing is abroad and the point is void.
the only good news in this is that they'e only brought the suit because they actually think they might be in trouble
couldnt care how much, you couldn't get me to write in that bastardised sub-PHP tokenising language of Objective-C for love nor money.
i ran OS/X for six months to check out Final Cut Pro. In the end I gave up. Final Cut Pro sucks with no decent audio support (yay spin out to separate app and hope that it returns your sequence correctly. F.OFF.) and there was just loads of little usefull apps I could not find an OS/X replacement for.
I'm not damn surprised. Objective-C sucks the devil's cock. XCode is a PITA. That whole platform from Mac to IPhone needs to die. Man I thought I heard a lot of swearing when I had a collegue porting stuff to Mac before it was ME having to write for Mac.
gotta be something else or something bloody stupid. "2010" > "2009" in string comparisons. only perhaps if they were comparing "0" with "9" will they have a problem.
monumental waste of money and creator of immense amounts of waste, the olympics. look at whats happening in london, fucking shocking.
also what is it with the olympics, seriously all that money to watch people run in circles for 2 weeks. most events are so eye wateringly tedious and pointless. noboy in their right minds goes to watch 90% of the sports on display most of the time anyway.
and why is football in there? isnt there a thing called the world cup?
clarkson is like a fox news right wing shock jock.
all that blowing things up and launching them off cliffs etc - imagine that with with rednecks screaming in the background. Its just like monster truck rallys in a british accent.
these range specifications. what temperature are they measured at? battery effeciency goes down with temperature. whats it going to be like with a car out in an average 5deg C over winter months?
sex in any game is bloody pointless unless you can join in. do something like a "track n field" button masher to keep a stroke in time or whatever. in either model of copulation stop trying to do this crappy fade out stuff. if he's going to get one up the old chocolate starfish then don't wuss out. I mean i bet there's load of slaying and blood and gore and crap going on in the rest of the game, don't go pussy (*hah) and blank this stuff out.
can never understand why various forms of killing people in excrutiating detail across all media is entertainment, yet an erect cock is an attack on society and we will all burn in hell if we see it, let alone if it is attached to its designated recepticle (or something else that fits if you are that way inclined).
ok so he's got asbergers. but he's intelligent. did he not know that breaking into other people's computer systems was a crime?
to let him off sets an awful precident. there are plenty of people saying that a lot of criminality is to do genes and upbringing.
so if we let mckinnon off we should let of loads and loads of lower class people because they "couldnt help it too". but that won't happen. mckinnon is not somebody we'd see on police camera action so we can feel happy about letting off a mentally ill offender.
don't get me wrong, i dont think he should extradited, he commited the crime here, should be tried here. nothing else
but this "awwwww he's got a mental disability" will open a whole can of fail on society if followed through.
its probably a bit far out to be practical for homes, but the warm air could be ducted to nearby offices/factories to heat them during winter. MS could charge them a competative rate for this free resource, everybodies carbon footprint gets lighter.
outrageous we are just funneling this back into the atmosphere
that use a double bass drum setup? seriously its only metal guys i've heard with that and it proves just how much drums are not a musical instrument.
all you can do is pump them as fast as possible, like it was hooked up to an old "daley thompson's decathalon" game from the 80s. which ironically enough when metal stopped evolving.
i wanna see these twat metal bands get business awards with some bloke going "congratulations, you persuaded millions of teenage nobends that the heart of 'not being a part of the system' or 'breaking away from the mainstream' is simply to buy a differently named product from the same sodding stores, produced by the same lame big company"
revolution doesn't happen because you have a t-shirt with your fave band name on.
if you create something in another country you have to register it with the US copyright office to be afforded any protection from youtube.com. Is this just a way of trying to pay off the US deficit?
this has implications for everybody. bloggers, youtube fiends... if you create anything you had better pony up to the US Govt or fail to be protected from US pirates.

more big up for Wolf ET
I know, not related, different dev & all
but wolf et was the best multiplayer game of all time, forcing you to *really* co-operate. i spent *so many* hours playing that
its a crappy student pub

can it really be this simple?
bolting 2 pre existing things together is patentable? what's next? recipies?
transformer ugly?
i've got one, dont think its ugly. and nobody has said anything like that, just been impressed by it.
the ability to have to the keyboard clip on (with extra battery) is the killer feature. yeah its ok to dick about reading emails and watching videos of lolcats being petted by hipsters, but if you've got to do some work in a reasonable time, a real keyboard is unbeatable.
touchscreen? internet? grid of icons? - Handspring!
I remember trialing a corporate service in about 2001, a handspring phone with a gsm data modem attached at the back and surfing the web (incredibly slowly mind). not a million miles from iphone as a user experience. of course add years of improvement in mobile processing, color screen, grafics co-processors etc you get something slicker. but the basics was there.

apple are exiting a lot of the market
specifically the pro end. their enterprise support has been woeful at best. now they've killed xsan hardware. lion server is crippled, xsan client is built in. FCP turns into FCA (final cut for amateurs) with no support for xsan (or any shared system).

'because of a court case?'
really? after all they've done? worried about contempt of court? not about all the hacking they've done?
something smelly fishy. it's a fish.
i think
the mini displayport on your macbook will probably work, check it out.
just a shame they don't stick a proper dvi port on the back so you could use it with a non apple product. they'd get some more sales through that.
did some tech support for a uk company in the 90s...
that did some work for govt. secret areas were separate, locked and connected to a separate set of servers (locked room from main server aisle) via fibre. that room had NO other external data connections. If any of us were in there we had to have somebody else in the room. bust hard drives went into a locked safe in that room until we did a secure rubbish run.
that.s how you keep things safe. can i have my £300,000,000 security consulting fee now please?
isn't it 30 quid with tax
well that's what i've been charged anyway
yes of course
but you've got to force everybody in your organisation to do this every single time somehow.
just turn it off (if you can)
good luck!
to somebody who has never rejected my mostly drunk rantings I salute you

Why? FOI and data protection rules.

nice gfx, shame about the game
http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6317666/#toggle_video
that does not look like a barrel of fun to me. slow and limp I would say...
not running xsan servers on the backend then?
silly me i forgot apple have cancelled them.
now there's faith in your own technology. and here's us running their now obsolete hardware with a 'hot backup' that only works if *every single client* is turned on.

Who's Black Magic Woman?
I think you'll find it was Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac who did that. not some crappy knockoff by hippy acoustic guitar players.
need more than a trade in
who is going to pay the ongoing cost of powering the thing? digital processing costs power wheras a cheap analogue radio unit doesn't need that.
oh. and sound quality.
@johnnyhands
seriously what type of effed up OS is this if the flash player is crashing all the apps? why is it being loaded in all the apps?

gotta be something else or something bloody stupid. "2010" > "2009" in string comparisons. only perhaps if they were comparing "0" with "9" will they have a problem.
bit uppity for something so shit
monumental waste of money and creator of immense amounts of waste, the olympics. look at whats happening in london, fucking shocking.
also what is it with the olympics, seriously all that money to watch people run in circles for 2 weeks. most events are so eye wateringly tedious and pointless. noboy in their right minds goes to watch 90% of the sports on display most of the time anyway.
and why is football in there? isnt there a thing called the world cup?
@"Top Gear is a cult hit here in the US"
im not surprised, its redneck tv.
clarkson is like a fox news right wing shock jock.
all that blowing things up and launching them off cliffs etc - imagine that with with rednecks screaming in the background. Its just like monster truck rallys in a british accent.
temperature?
these range specifications. what temperature are they measured at? battery effeciency goes down with temperature. whats it going to be like with a car out in an average 5deg C over winter months?
will anything even start at -5?
agh
sex in any game is bloody pointless unless you can join in. do something like a "track n field" button masher to keep a stroke in time or whatever. in either model of copulation stop trying to do this crappy fade out stuff. if he's going to get one up the old chocolate starfish then don't wuss out. I mean i bet there's load of slaying and blood and gore and crap going on in the rest of the game, don't go pussy (*hah) and blank this stuff out.
can never understand why various forms of killing people in excrutiating detail across all media is entertainment, yet an erect cock is an attack on society and we will all burn in hell if we see it, let alone if it is attached to its designated recepticle (or something else that fits if you are that way inclined).
oops
ireland just lost 1-0.
slippery slope... and classism.
ok so he's got asbergers. but he's intelligent. did he not know that breaking into other people's computer systems was a crime?
to let him off sets an awful precident. there are plenty of people saying that a lot of criminality is to do genes and upbringing.
so if we let mckinnon off we should let of loads and loads of lower class people because they "couldnt help it too". but that won't happen. mckinnon is not somebody we'd see on police camera action so we can feel happy about letting off a mentally ill offender.
don't get me wrong, i dont think he should extradited, he commited the crime here, should be tried here. nothing else
but this "awwwww he's got a mental disability" will open a whole can of fail on society if followed through.
witches in space?
don't you mean occluded rather than occulted?
@jules 1
its probably a bit far out to be practical for homes, but the warm air could be ducted to nearby offices/factories to heat them during winter. MS could charge them a competative rate for this free resource, everybodies carbon footprint gets lighter.
outrageous we are just funneling this back into the atmosphere
wtf
just scanned through this, 8 mins and apparntly no footage of the video from the camera supposedly attached. im not believing it.
will be thrown out
i mean their system is designed to be useful. twitter is for idiots with fuck all to do for hours every day to waste time .
why is it even still alive? how on earth could it make money?
is he one of those cocks
that use a double bass drum setup? seriously its only metal guys i've heard with that and it proves just how much drums are not a musical instrument.
all you can do is pump them as fast as possible, like it was hooked up to an old "daley thompson's decathalon" game from the 80s. which ironically enough when metal stopped evolving.
i wanna see these twat metal bands get business awards with some bloke going "congratulations, you persuaded millions of teenage nobends that the heart of 'not being a part of the system' or 'breaking away from the mainstream' is simply to buy a differently named product from the same sodding stores, produced by the same lame big company"
revolution doesn't happen because you have a t-shirt with your fave band name on.
well thats fucking lovely innit?
if you create something in another country you have to register it with the US copyright office to be afforded any protection from youtube.com. Is this just a way of trying to pay off the US deficit?
this has implications for everybody. bloggers, youtube fiends... if you create anything you had better pony up to the US Govt or fail to be protected from US pirates.
picture is of Obama rifiling through my jacket looking for my wallet
