I disagree about Holographic tv, I believe we want 3d tv that has real depth of vision. The problem with stereoscopic 3d is it gives the illusion of depth but doesn't fool the brain properly because you're not changing focus to see things further back. So while you can tell that something is in front of something else you can't really tell how far in front. Real 3d telly would make you focus in front of or behind the screen and would give a much better impression of depth making for a more immersive experience...
I don't care if marriage is redefined to include same sex couples. Currently that's not what the word means. Stop getting so arsey with me, I'm not trying to oppress you. I just think that words have definitions that should be adhered to. That's why I hate it when people say "leverage" instead of "use", it's incorrect use of language that reduces clarity and meaning.
My point was really that civil partnerships give gay couples the same legal status as different sex married couples. That seems to me to be much more significant that whether "marriage" is redefined to include same sex couples.
To say that gay couples shouldn't be allowed to live together is homophobic. To say that the definition of marriage excludes gay couples isn't homophobic, it's just shows a grasp of what the word currently means.
It's good that gay couples have enough rights these days that they can focus on semantic fluff like this, but a civil partnership is a marriage in all extents except the word used, isn't it?
TBH I don't give a toss either way, Marriage is not really an institution I have much time for, gay or straight. But to claim that everyone who thinks marriage means a man and woman is homophobic is wrong, it's just the traditional defintion of the word.
Yeah, the service is really successful for private sharing but Google are just keeping quiet about that because it's private.... You know how much Google respect people's privacy!
vlc is a bit cakey, for example it stutters playing some videos I've downloaded recently, but it's a good way of getting round the region lock on windows pc dvd players!
Re: Another Big Patch Day, and a Week of Start Up Repair Routines
Bought my daughter an ASUS Eee pc for xmas year before last, she loves it and both hardware and software are pretty robust. Nevertheless the ASUS bloatware that came with it is shit and throws exceptions approximately every half hour. She just ok's them and carries on.
The point I'm making is that these machines have crappy OEM builds of windows with badly written services that don't do what they're supposed to and blow up all the time. That's not really Microsoft's fault, I'm sure ASUS could also mash up an install of UNIX if they tried hard enough...
>>Don't get me started on clothes, but if you dress raunchy and go up to a star athletes room at 2am don't come crying to me that you were raped.<<
It doesn't matter what the situation is, rape is unacceptable. Even if you're a star athlete. What fucking difference does being a star athlete make?
The "She was asking for it" excuse is just that, a pathetic excuse for unbalanced men. If you can't control yourself around scantily clad women then you're the one with the problem.
OK. So if that was ironic then presumably we do need another social media player to spam us with our friend's tastes. Or was only part of the post ironic? This is too confusing...
I believe the problem (at least to Oracle) is Google thinking that because an option is "better" they can ignore the fact it's legally dubious. It's pretty clear that Google knew that this case was coming, they just figured it's US justice and they have pots of cash so it's worth a go...
Then maybe you should learn how to use your Android phone and stop trolling.
fuck you! It's a sony xperia play with the latest sony build of Android. Going into settings for location I have "Use Wireless networks" and "use GPS satellites". With "Use wireless networks" unchecked I touch the "use GPS satellites" option and the message I see is "Will collect anonymous data while using GPS, Agree or Disagree". If I select disagree it doesn't turn the GPS on. You can link to all the support topics you like, get the device and you'll see I'm right.
And get a login you anonymous pussy, or would that make it too obvious that you astro turf for google?
in what way is this bullshit? Google do love to sniff data, they won't even let me enable gps on my android phone without giving them "anonymous" data. (if it was genuinely anonymous it'd just be a lat lon pair and of no value at all). We all know their "accidental" wifi data slurp was not accidental. The android store has plenty of malware on it.
It's a perfectly legitimate point of view to be paranoid about them. If you're in charge of a businesses' IT and you think this is bullshit then you're not doing your job properly.
What a ludicrous argument, the last paragraph says it all. It's like saying if I put poison in your tea but you have a heart attack before you drink it I've done nothing wrong. I'm not guilty of murder but it's still criminal to try and poison someone, whether it works or not. So why does the fact the business was failing make it ok to use illegal methods to try and bring it down?
Bristol too! Two games, a gamestation and a game franchise in Debenhams, all within a minutes walk from each other. What were the management thinking? It's almost criminally incompetent...
Reminds me of when Fopp closed. Whenever I was in there there was a queue of people waiting to buy stuff, they couldn't sell it fast enough. Still not making enough to keep it going.
When they say bricks and mortar is dead for retail it seems to be as much through bad management as through a change in people's buying habits...
What makes you think they haven't paid for food and heating first? Don't get me wrong, there are all sorts of fools out there getting into terrible debt. That doesn't mean that if you're not on a massive income you should live like a hermit and shun all technology. Some people budget responsibly and it allows them to pay the bills and have little luxuries every so often.
This kind of knee-jerk "It's the chav's that ruined the economy" bullshit really gets on my tits.
No, me neither, but when I contacted my credit card provider (Virgin) and asked for a card without contactless tech I was told they couldn't do it, all new cards have it built in. So you might not want it, but you're going to have a hard time avoiding it.
Anyone know whereabouts on the card it is? Surely a quick bite in the right place would disable it permanently...
Not trying to stand up for Google here, but how come Windows will run exe's that are sat in the user profile folders? These are for app data, not apps themselves. If MS had any sense they'd lock this shit down right now and pop up a "restore ie as default" message when Chrome tries to load from the profile and excepts. That would be hillaire!
Hilarity aside, they're targeting the biggest market. Why do you think Apple's "it just works" is so successful? Because it appeals to clever people? Surely they all use linux...
I was in my local Game yesterday, they've cut a lot of prices to the bone. There's a lot of crap in there but some good finds in the second hand games (DOA Paradise PSP for 48p, Advance Wars DS 98p). The boy just picked up Blops (presumably for 360) for a tenner...
I disagree. To people who are actually short of cash 200 quid is a lot cheaper than 330 quid. If you don't think so then you're probably not the target market, but there are plenty of people in the UK today who'd find 330 quid out of the question but 200 just about doable.
Just read the summary linked to in the article. They did indeed just take the date and add 1 to the year, and not with a date object and the dateadd function.
Unbelievable that this happened on their production service. If I was a customer I'd be migrating to another platform right now...
The boy had ME2, or possibly the first one, on his 360 and it ran like a dog when things kicked off, frame rate dropping to lowish single digits in a firefight. Anyone tried this on 360 and know if this is still the case?

How is it entirely different? Can you elaborate? To me Apple's monopoly on tablet computers seems very similar to MS's monopoly on desktop OS...

Yeah, let's all write everything from scratch every time we start coding.

Re: Totally OT
That + thing still seems to work on bing.
bing just scrape google results anyway so you'll get pretty much the same results as you used to...
but you have to use bing. eww....

If you're tight enough for cash that £200 is just about doable, WTF would you spend it on a tablet?
As a birthday present for a 16 year old who'd worked hard at school and got good grades?
