Re: Can't fault their stance

obvioiusly there's a reason everyone here remembers the old "MAC vs PC" flamewars. They're sort of back, but now with added players!

You still get to love your favorite company and proclaim your undying support, but now there's the added benefit of not just hating one oponent, but tons of them!

let the flamewars....

Re: Samsung Fanbois

i really can't imagine that's anything but plain bad luck. i've had Samsung stuff for over 20 years and have been amazed many times about the amount of physical abuse their hardware could take before it failed. i had one of those classic "boombox" sets with one of the first CD players in it. it survived savage beatings (loads of falling down from stuff, stairs, hills, out of windows, that kind of shit) and only died when my "friends" who borrowed it, thought it was a good idea to play a round of football with it (i still resent them for that).

Re: Samsung Fanbois

I was about to proclaim my own Samsung fanboiïsm (i think i've just invented a new word!), but then i realized i was going to buy my first real smartphone soon, a Lumia 800. I do love their stuff though, i have a 40" LCD TV by Samsung and consider them first for all my electronics purchases. I've had several older phones by them as well. My love for Nokia phones is quite easy to explain though, i've been (or am, it's still lying around somewhere and i'm 100% sure it'll work when i find it and the battrery will be fine) the proud owner of a 6310i and let's face it, there will never be a better phone then that.

i'd rather

Have a winphone (and i AM getting one soon) which runs the risk of crashing, but has a plethora of app, then a closed down platform. It's almost like choosing between Apple and Android.

C'mon Microsoft, you can do better then this. People are actually starting to believe you're not the bad guy anymore, don't diminish that by this move.

sorry for the confusion!

Apple is about ten years behind Microsoft when it comes to security.

now read that again.

and again.

Microsoft and security...... i almost cannot believe what i'm reading here.

Danny 5
WTF?

i demand free music and films

Here in Holland, we pay a fee for every empty CD, DVD or other medium, to compensate artists for their work. As a result, In Holland it's legal to download audio and videofiles, regardless wether they're protected by copyright.

Now copyright protectors are hunting down sites that offer audio and video, as that's still illegal.

So get this, i pay for music and films through buying empty CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, or whatever other medium you can think of, so i can download them for free, but it's illegal to offer free downloads.

So i'll soon be forced to pay for music twice? once when i buy the MP3 and once when i want to slap it on disk?

Does this seem fair to you?

when i claim i have a right to free music and films, people usually chuckle, but can someone tell me what's wrong with my demand? am i being unfair, or am i treated unfairly?

you tell me, i lost track.

Re: I really hope they fail

pah, if you're such a techhead, then why did you go and buy prefab machines? any IT person worth his salt will build their own.

I can't stand all those "i f*cking hate Microsoft" people, it's the same as the "i hate apple" people (oh shit, that's me, but at least i know when i'm talking crap). Microsoft has been a massive factor in how the tech world has progressed over the past decades and we should all be thankfull for that. Serioiusly, complaining about machines being preloaded with Windows, while that's one of thew few peices of added value Windows still has?

So Ipads shouldn't be preloaded with IOS, and MACS? didn't hear you complain about that one. Or how about preloaded Andriod? workings of the devil, i'm sure.

getting a Lumia next month

And support around here for the new Nokia devices is actually quite high, so i'm surprised to see it doing so badly elsewhere.

I'm looking forward to getting my new Lumia 800 (or 900, whatever will be available)

Re: still going?

There's tons of things you can start doing without knowing what the exact cause is. put more focus on renewables for example. If you think that's "pissing money away" then that's quite sad imho.

As i said before, it doesn't really matter if the planet is heating up, it doesn't matter if we're responsible for something like that and it doesn't matter what the cause is. We're using tons of things that will eventually run out and it makes sense to do something about that, regardless of climate change. if the end result also takes care of climat change, then that's an added bonus.

Finding alternatives for stuff that will eventually run out makes sense.

Danny 5
WTF?

still going?

i don't get it, why are we still debating wether the planet is heating up or not?

i was quite convinced that we reached consensus on this matter. It doesn't matter wether we're responsible for any issues, but it's a good idea to take care of the planet if we want to remain on here for the long run. Who cares if it's an incident or not and who cares what can be proven at this point, we need to take care of this big blue marble regardless.

makes sense

This has been in the cards for MS for quite some time now. It's in line with comments i made a while ago regarding Apple, Google and Microsoft.

The more i see, the more i'm convinced i was right, Apple and Google are now the bad guys and Microsoft is the good guy.

i made the comment partly as a joke, didn't expect it to become true.

Danny 5

Danny 5
WTF?

personal experience

Having had seriously sore muscles after more intense bouts of skiing on Wii Fit and being genuinely tired after long playing sessions on pretty much any of my games, i think it's safe to say that it's a workout. Perhaps not as much as kids would need, but surely not "nothing".

Danny 5
WTF?

Apple eh?

So their strategy for ending the mass amount of "frivolous patent claims" is by applying for more frivolous patents?

When does the hurting stop?

i haven't been keeping track as i used to, but i recall AMD used to be the better choice for gaming. If that's still true, that this move makes perfect sense.

I skipped the PS3, but might give the 4 a go if it's good.

it breaks my heart

But as i said before, they brought this on themselves. Their long term strategy is to get more casual gamers to opt for Nintendo (i don't know the exact quote anymore, but it was something like this). They also said they had less interest in hardcore gamers, as that market was saturated. In that they alienated many people, some of which where long time fans (me).

They chose the wrong path, simple as that.

Danny 5

FF-X?

zero charm? i think it's one of the best in the series. I almost cried when Auron "died", i actually did have to wipe away a tear when Tidus fades away and i bought FFX-2 not only because i love the series, but also because i felt the game wasn't finished.

The father/son scenes, the beautiful scenes with Yuna and her "dance macabre"

Danny 5
WTF?

wait... what?

"but FF XIII-2’s over-reliance on pre-rendered cutscenes is simply impossible to ignore."

Since Final Fantasy went 3D, the CGI cutscenes are what the fans want, it's what we've come to expect when getting a new installment. I can go along with the rest of the review, but really don't understand why a beautiful, detailed and long intro movie is a bad thing, it's one of the things i most look forward to when first starting the new game

Danny 5
WTF?

riiiiiiiiiiiight

Guess America want's to get rid of tourists, which are obviously hurting their already dwindling economy. How they managed to shift the focus away from them is still a mystery to me, problems in the US are far greater then in Europe, but somehow nobody seems to notice.

Let those paranoid assholes do what they want, in the end it'll just cost them more.

Danny 5
Alert

Finally there's a legitimate use for the Ipad!

Danny 5
WTF?

am i an exception?

I consider myself a true hardcore gamers. i cannot count the titles i finished on PC and am the proud owner of the following:

Super Nintendo.

N64

Gamecube

Wii

Gameboy

GBA

DSlite

PSP

PS2

Xbox360

All my consoles and handhelds come with a slew of games, all bought from my own money.

I don't play FPS games, as i hate them, i play RPG's, Adventures and racing games mostly, but also have tons of platformers and such.

When i bought my Wii, i got most titles that i liked from the past. I got Final Fantasy for the Wii, which sucks. I got Dragon quest for the Wii, which sucks even more. I got another Final Fantasy and guess what, it sucked too!

played madworld, gave up after ten minutes, because it......

you guessed it again, it sucked.

i have about 20 Wii titles in total, the only two games i actually played for more then two days where House of the dead - Overkill and another on rails shooter, those worked well.

The only "hardcore" titles on the Wii are a handfull of poor FPS games, which didn't cut the mustard.

I've been one of the most loyal supporters of Nintendo since the '80's and feel like they abandoned me with the Wii. What other reason can you give me for the fact that i always played Nintendo, up untill the Wii? why would i switch to Xbox if the Wii has plenty of hardcore games? and don't tell me it's the graphics, i still regularly play my SNES on my 40'" LCD TV, which looks like shit.

Danny 5
FAIL

too bad

i've been a huge fan of Nintendo for years, but in recent years i felt like they turned their backs on the hardcore gamers. The Wii was a piece of crap, which failed far too quickly. it may have paved the way for the future, the hardware was of inferior spec and broke down far too easilly. Mine broke just after a year of use, the laser just gave up (an often heard complaint) and Nintendo refused to fix it. In stead, they gave me the option of buying a replacement unit at a discount price (discount being 10% under retail). i was furious. At that moment i decided to never go back to Nintendo. There are hardly any good games for hardcore players on their stuff anyway and their customer service sucks.

they brought this on themselves.

Danny 5

love this guy

in a single outburst, he managed to put himself and anyone he deals with under scrutiny, couldn't have happened to a nicer person too.

awesome comments by this man "if you want to continue getting money from us, you better support us, no matter what".

kinda sounds like those old mafia movie toughguys, collecting their "protection money" from companies.

Danny 5
Happy

why?

i agree that VMware is the best there is at the moment, but why the talking down of HyperV? i've been using it for a while now and have to say it works very well. There's certainly a lot of work to be done before it's a real rival, but i see that happening along the quite near future.

Problem with being the best is that the only way is down ;)

Danny 5

But imho it falls flat due to the fact that i am yet to see the first casualty of copyright infringement.

you can't compare facilitating murder with facilitating theft.

Danny 5
WTF?

excuse me?

megaupload primarilly a resource for copyright infringement? then why are so many big artists supporting them? i know people who contacted megaupload after they found music of theirs being hosted, they took it down within 24 hours.

Go on, give me examples of it being mostly set up for illegal content, i dare you!

caged

If the US wishes to "protect" itself from online piracy outside the US, they will simply cage themselves. this legislation is more proof that the powers that be just don't understand how the internet works.

if you restrict my business in doing what it's always done, business, then i'm going to seek outside resources, outside being another country. there is no other result then complete isolation for the US, which i assume is the most unwanted result possible.

Danny 5

normally i'm able to post replies that are more then a few words, but in this case i'm stuck at "f*ck you"

Danny 5

take it from a Dutch guy

The judge in this case has made massive errors. first up, the "facts" provided by the Dutch anti-piracy coalition BREIN, turned out to be incorrect and the judge apparently didn't feel the need to check those numbers (wonder why on earth this person is a judge, but that's offtopic).

second, there's already been a European ruling in exactly the same case, if the Dutch ISPs take it to Europe, there wont even be a case, the previous verdict will be dug up and applied.

thirdly, this verdict shows that the justice department still doesn't really understand how the internet works, how are they going to enforce this? for every ten piratebays you block, 100 will be waiting in tow to fill the gap.

This whole case is wrong in so many ways, it's actually quite amusing.

Can we all stop talking about Steve Jobs please? i was taught not to speak ill of the dead, but this is starting to get rather ridiculous. Let me say it one more time, in case it wasn't abundantly clear already. Steve Jobs was no saint, more the opposite if anything.

The king is dead, love live the king!

As stated in the article, this is not for hardcore gamers. Casual gamers will find a happy home here though, it works quite well.

Danny 5
Meh

ok, so explain to me this

How will that work in my country of origin, where net neutrality laws have recently been passed?

neutral net access is a law here, telcos have been told they cannot charge for specific traffic and ISP are not allowed to throttle certain protocols. If what you say is true, then our laws will need to be changed.
