I might be assuming wrong here, but based on your use of the word "Yank" I'm going to assume you're British. You do know that American Idol is a spinoff of Pop Idol, right? So the "disgusting excuses for a TV program" as you put it, is originally yours. Now I do see your Joke Alert, and being American I realize that I am sarcasm impaired, so I might have missed the humor in your post, for which I apologize.
That's an accent difference. Some parts of the country say "rowt", others say "root". If I had to nail it down, i'd say that "rowt" is more common in the north while "root" is more common in the south
Route 66 is a rather famous road in certain parts of the US, it predates the current Interstate system and ran from Chicago to Los Angeles and was one of the first federal routes created.

If i remember right there was a 50s or 60s tv show of the same name, no idea what the plot was.
There's an old song out there called route 66 with the line "you can get your kicks on route 66" done at one point by Depeche Mode
No idea why route 66 would be relevant in the UK though.
Paris because its 3 off from her favorite route to... oh just give me my coat.
The article mentions that Ernie Chambers is in the state senate for Nebraska. This is technically incorrect since there is no state senate in Nebraska, there is only a state legislature. Nebraska is the only state left in the US with a unicameral, no house of representatives and senate, only a single legislature.
And yes, I am kinda embarassed to have this guy in my state legislature, thankfully, he doesn't represent the part of the state I live in

Looks like someone got...
..some extra chips in their CHIPS!
Ok, so I had trouble with that joke, but it a story about a US woman, how about at least calling them by their US name ;)
rowt vs root

Seems to me that a chinese group complaining about piracy is a bit silly, since according to the IFPI china has an 85% piracy rate

Odd time zone...
I do find the :45 or :15 time zones a little strange but for me the really bizarre one is Nuku'alofa at GMT +13:00
just seems odd to me
Minor error in article

Wrong secrets....
Given the performance of the Toyota team (300+ million dollar budget and no race wins) it seems like these guys stole the wrong secrets.
