I wish these articles had more technical details? This side of IT fascinates me but was it a dodgy PHP script? Out of date daemon? Brute force? Keylogger?
What if I have n00d snaps of my 17 year old girlfriend? (I am 19) Am I a dirty irredeemable sex offender?
This law is ridiculous and will create many problems and solve none. In fact, I expect it will lead to more rape because people who otherwise would sit at home looking at CP (disgusting as that is) are more likely to go out and offend to get a kick.
I can't believe this has got as far as it has, we're supposed to be a free country. This law wouldn't solve anything and just criminalize something that would otherwise be regulated.
It would drive production underground and endanger everyone involved. Anyone who agrees with this is a complete frackwit.
Yes but if we are using them for 90% of our computer activity and say, 5 hours a day, that means the slightest issues, sluggishness, counter-productive workings get us very pissed off in the grand scheme of things.
Well that would be highly illegal. They were just having a bit of fun. Nothing illegal about visiting the URL - I expect most of the hits on those URLs were people simply visiting links given to them by friends.
I don't think anyone could get sued or prosecuted over this. Its just too hard to prove malicious intent.
Re: Techies take things far too seriously sometimes....
But joe, you're missing the point. I doubt this bill will do anything to prevent e-crime. Why? Because most of the people actually doing damage are a) Overseas and b) Not afraid to commit crime anyway.
All this will do is make our businesses softer targets as we are disadvantaged by cutting off our security resources.
Locked in? I don't think so. Of all the people I know that have iPods, very little use the iTunes store, and the ones that do I convert very quickly. Winamp I find is more effective for managing my pod than iTunes itself :) iPods are excellent though, I fully plan to get a classic 160gb, as my 60GB's lockswitch is busted and I voided my warranty :/ I just find that their aesthetic, build quality and general functionality are great. Oh for FLAC, custom metatag sorting and a tonne of other crap. But a man can dream, eh :]
It was nice of them to give the iPods away though, publicity stunt or not.
it really is - if they didn't need to oversell due to not spending enough on infrastructure, they wouldn't have issues with capacity that mean they have to traffic shape torrenting and noone would use encryption.
Andy - I know where you're coming from, but this is not about ISP side filtering and is in a completely different direction - this is about informing parents that they can block their kids from seeing a small amount of the violence on the net. (ha ha)
jeremy - I personally found that once a censoring software (or any piece of software) was put in my way in any shape of form, my number one priority was to get around and destroy it. This meant I learned a lot more about computers than if I was just handed my free internet on a plate ;] If it wasn't for censoring proxies, I wouldn't know half what I know about CGIproxies etcetera.
That they screw legit consumers and pirates get away unscathed.
Its just completely the wrong direction to take. Don't they get it? Who on earth has a brain small enough to make these decisions, it is ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason to have copy protection beyond checks for internet play (which is pretty effective in stopping pirates multi-using a single key).
Steam is a shining example of this system (eventually) working.

hmm
Surely this is getting to the point where it may be so widespread as to be considerd for an antitrust ruling ?
Sigh.

Re: bunch of k**bs

You'd be surprised.
Re: Attract younger people?
Remember, people are stupid now.
Will it take the form of...
...some sort of raft? Comprised of a giant flotilla strung together around the USS Enterprise?
Luckily "Larry Page" is not an anagram of "L. Bob Rife".
quick!
get crucifying, people - maybe they'll ban the bible!
OpenDNS
All is *GREAT*! Yaaay!
SSL
All the way.
And if the ISPs break SSL, surely they're committing a crime?
No matter how advanced this gets
I will never want to blink to change tracks. That would just be creepy and irritating.
Neural stuff, however...
Just tried Lively
It is not the metaverse we have been waiting for.
Why
Is gordon brown doing everything wrong, he's such a tosser.
what about
WTC
Social Hacking
Not machine hacking. Yet again, technology is more secure than the people that operate it.
:c
Bye bye, freedom.
:S

It is depressing
That an evil regime is doing a better job of helping its occupants than a "liberal democracy".
I don't really care.
Their mall, their rules. I think information aggregation projects like this are more interesting than invasive.
Hello Kitty is awesome
Disney is fail.
WHAT.
First porn, then dissent.

Airstrip One
Here we come
Holy shit
The man has taste!
Whee
Hmm. A shame it doesn't have decent graphics. This thing would be damn near ideal for lan parties otherwise :(

You think with that amount of money
They'd at least pay a decent designer

Re: Storage is a bit weak
I'd imagine that if you were buying one of these, you'd have a separate storage solution,
Lag?
Surely there's lag etc? When the tech develops further, it would be interesting to have practice dogfights between manned and unmanned craft.
Re: Good!
Oh noes! The interenets will fall!

Re: Good Job
You are so wrong. The whole idea of living in a free society is to be able to "take liberties". As long as it doesn't affect others.
Heh.
Apparently, FLAC and MKV are okay. Maybe they're pushing for better quality ripping standards...

ISPs fault
it really is - if they didn't need to oversell due to not spending enough on infrastructure, they wouldn't have issues with capacity that mean they have to traffic shape torrenting and noone would use encryption.
Either way, greed is our enemy.
Oooh :D
Hopefully it will be quirky with underlying nerdy intrigue as with his other things.

But where do we draw the line between ignorance and naivety?

Actually its just over £7 a month if you use timecards. :]
If you have RealPlayer installed and use Internet Explorer to browse the web
Just buy a damn gun and get it over with, the world doesn't need you.
This movie
Comedy gold.
@Simon Painter
Too true, I learned to ignore him after he mindlessly attacked Chris Boyd (aka Paperghost) for reporting a valid problem with bittorrent.
Makes me sick
Their earning is quite obviously already disproportionate to their skills and effort, yet they want MORE. Greed.
Anyone who votes Chuck Norris
Is a stupid trendhugging fucktard.
Hahahah
Eat that you mindless fools :D
Headline
The headline is a scare tactic, completely innacurate, and reminiscant of tabloid hyperbole.
Change or risk looking stupid.
Gmm

You have nothing to hide.

Won't bioshock be through steam anyway?
