Had you read the article you may have noted that Gnome3 has been in development for 5 years, much longer than Unity has been and clearly not around solely to compete with Ubuntu.

I also notice they've swapped to mac-esque minimize/maximize/close buttons. Colours look neat, but no program bar at the bottom by default? Guess some tweaking is in order.
Thousands or more zombies in the each bot net and the security firms can't let a couple honey pots send a few thousand e-mails to add to the billions that are already sent? Isn't it more important to get the research data then to worry about spreading the bot to a few more machines? Quit being high and mighty and get the job done!

The new version of tab movement is much more efficient (doesn't have to reload the site) and the new recently closed windows is a nice feature. I've saved myself, and friends, many times with the Recently Closed Tabs feature.
I find that Firefox 3.5 loads faster and opens new tabs faster than Firefox 3.0. All-in-all, a great release.
