>But the Windows Phone isn't popular because of the typography, or even the tiles: it's popular because (like the iPhone) it makes a subset of very common tasks available and easy to access.
I was under the impression that WInPho is hugely unpopular, to the extend that WinMob 6.5 units are still outselling WinPho7
@tempemeaty Apple and Microsoft have demonstrated the same functionality for their respective devices using far more whimsical reasons. Not sure about RIM though...
I for one would like to see more modern books being converted into movies - not too sure what the current obsession of converting 60s scifi into movies is.
Dark Night Trilogy or Mindstar Trilogy (would be cheaper to make) by Robert F Hamilton is pretty good.
Greg Bear has done a few good books that would do brilliant film conversions: Anvil of Stars, Eon, Moving Mars...
Sorry.. I am too much in love with MicroXP (boots up to around 40MB and around 1GB install). I have about a dozen Virtualbox machines catering for my Windows development needs on my Linux metal box.
I was under the impression that Mono's performance lags considerably when compared to Microsoft's VM.
Will Android handsets have the required CPU power to offer a good user experience? I am thinking of the lower end 500/600Mhz handsets.
TBH, I'd rather invest in learning Scala for Android. I'm in my third week of writing my first Android app (coming to Java from Ruby and Delphi) and boy is Java verbose!!
>Would your Acer Revos have the build quality and quietness of the mini though (-in addition to HDMI, FW800 and mini-DP)?
The Acer Revo is whisper quiet (too quiet... the only way I can tell it is on is by its LED). The ION GPU spits at 720p and 1080p H264 videos. XBMC runs flawlessly on it allowing me to watch all manner of video formats and containers... this includes SSA/ASS subtitled anime in all their 720p glory.
Yes, includes HDMI (and VGA out), four USB ports and a couple of eSTATA connectors.... all for about 179 inclusive VAT (obviously for the non Windows version).
I don't like the layout.. feels weird having the links on the left and the search results shifted to the right... my old codger eyes now overshoot the the left as soon as I hit the Search button (via the Enter key)
I do, however, like the Timeline view... Wonder wheel? Meh...
to produce 40 pints of lovely stout. The first batch comes out at £2 a pint. Subsequent batches cost 38 pence a pint.
The above should definitely appeal to all the pc system builders amongst us. The wife can attest that the produced product is, "some of the best stout I've had".

I did this with Dell over a year ago with my (then) shiny XPS 1330 laptop.
I received a refund for Vista + MS Works = £120. I sent them a nice letter with a lovely coloyr A4 (glossy) printed photo of me clicking the "reject license" option and another photo with the laptop running Kubuntu 3.5.
Shortly after that incident (don't think it was related), Dell started offering preloaded Ubuntu XPS 1330 laptops.... but with inferior specs: the Vista version would have much high hardware specs than the Ubuntu lappy for the same price. The reasoning was that my example would no longer be refunded as a non-windows option was available.
Sadly, AFAIK, this is no longer the case and Dell (AFAIK) is back to Windows only oferrings (at least on the home/soho offerings).

+1 for "stormtroopers".
Lucky I wasn't reading this early in the morning with a nice cup of coffee hovering over my keyboard!
Only 50?
>Apple has knocked 50 quid off the price of the Mac Mini.
Hmm... knocking £500 would be more like it....
Windows 7 vs Virtualised MicroXP
Sorry.. I am too much in love with MicroXP (boots up to around 40MB and around 1GB install). I have about a dozen Virtualbox machines catering for my Windows development needs on my Linux metal box.

Performance issues?

Premium Storage Costs?
"... this, saying it merely aimed to spruce its records. "
O'Rly?
As if storage and hard drive costs weren't at an all time low....

20 years into the future...
Might explain the dream I had last night where I saw myself 20 years in the future....
Did this over a year ago....

Space and Time
Tag: Flashforward (not the fraked up tv series, which took a good book and ballsed it up beyond recognition).
MS Shills
For all you MS Shills that keep harping on how W7 is faster than XP. Stop it. It is questionably faster that Vista but that is it.

2025 == Mad Max
2025? Who would care by then?
1. There will be no fuel left for the common man/woman
2. All those feral kids, tanked up on cider and armed with knives, will all be adults...
3. Adults from 2 will have feral kids 2.0
3. Big Brother^W^W The government will never tell us. If it would then how as none of us would afford running a radio, let alone a PC or television!
The less I think about the future the happier I am...
DS Lite Game on Page 5?
Out of interest... what is the game on the DS Lite on page 5?
Arrr!!

Mod Trackers!!!
This very much reminds me of mod trackers from the late 80s for all of us who broke our cherries on Amigas and the much derided STs (yes I had one).
I remember most mod tracker groups went the way of the MP3 in the early 90s.
So we've come full circle then....
Ubuntu over Vista
Today sees the release of Ubuntu 8.04.
Balmer. Do us a favour and discontinue ALL XP sales ahead of end of the June deadline. Infact, do it tomorrow!
MS... all your desktop are belong to us.
