Can the governments of the world not do something about wintel? Fixing a formfactor to pricing and the chipmaker is involved ..... can you say Antitrust?
We are a Novell shop and hate SLES because of YAST! YAST is crap! It Sucks! I want to kill whoever developed it. Now back to replacing SLES servers with CentOS and Red Hat
And that saved money goes to hiring more employees and increased training for our IT staff. Our CFO gets it. We are profitable and are expanding in this economic slump. Thanks to Linux, Apache/Tomcat and Java we are saving $3,000,000/year on licensing alone and we are more productive then we were with our old closedsource model.
Novell forces us to run SuSE 10 to run any of their services on Linux. We (us Linux admins that is) hate it. Please Novell just give us RPMs and we will install it on Red Hat or CentOS.
To get back on topic, I agree that Fedora 9 is whacked, so whacked in fact that we deployed CentOS 5.2 for our latest desktop image.
Actually the quality has gone down hill. I love the IBM branded t series thinkpads they were tough and could take a beating. The new Lenovo seem to be cheaply made. They remind me of the old R series stuff except I don't think they will stand up as well.
Actually we are a huge Novell customer and we try to avoid SuSE as much as possible. We have even gone as far as installing SuSE10, installing <novell product>, then ripping off the binaries and required libs and run it on CentOS.
YaST (not sure the version but it seems to reappear every now and then) has a documented bug (with Novell support) that if you just start YaST and do not change ANYTHING it will sometimes overwrite your custom changes. This is why we rename the yast binaries on all out SuSE boxen. Red Hat ditched Linuxconf years ago for this same reason.
YaST needs to die, it is bloated and buggy and a steaming pile of crap!

Social Networking?
Does anyone actually use facebook anymore?
When did you Brits ....
turn into Americans? Fucking pathetic.
LOL
like any real enterprise would trust Microsoft .... well except those that have (btw good luck in the future, nice agile enterprise).
I say Fsck em!
I love google as much as the next guy but hey fsck you, If you can't keep your systems safe you deserve to be hacked.

Open source saves our company $500,000.00 a year

Typical Novell
Just start to get somewhere with something just about decent and they fuck it all up.
Same old Novell, if they would just invest in their software and stop chasing the fad they could really make an impact on IT.
Oh and we are a Novell shop. `hangs head in shame`
Nielsen Media Research?
These guys can't get TV rating right, and now they are trying videogames?
Bloody American idiots!
Did they ditch Yast yet?
That bloated steaming pile of shit is what makes SuSE crap!
The one thing I have discovered in my career in IT is that Novell software gives me tourettes!
You would think that the FBI would have better things to do
Like finding abducted children, investigating "the terrorizers" and such.
More like Vista is ...
Shit! So lets change our naming again so that Vista (aka steaming pile of dung) has nothing to do with our new name ... Windows 7.
Re: "loaded SuSE 10.3. EVERYTHING just worked!"
I am sorry but I find that hard to believe.

retire reliable kit ...
introduce cheap crap!
WOW what a way to win customers! Dell is shit! I replace every Dell server I come across because of their utter lack of quality.
721 Dell servers replaced with IBM or HP kit and more to go
RE: Does this mean the end for The Pirate Bay, et. al?
Nope!
Only a sucker would pay for both these services and even attempt to have anything resembling a real life.
Digital downloads are still years off, especially since we can get better quality rips for free with no DRM.
Wake up and smell the JAVA Microsoft!
@Mark Dempster

YaST
YaST = Yet another SHITTY Tool we are going to force you to use like it or not.
Mine is the one with the CentOS and Ubuntu boot cds to nuke all the SuSE installs
One more reason
not to buy HP
Hmmm ...
could be because their products are pants?
Just asking as we were not impressed with the demo we had.
Linux
In that size of an environment you should really give Linux (for the server) a try.
Simple to set up and totally free. Add on free email and backup and you can save several thousand on software alone.
Yawn!
So now EDS will have to buy crappy HP kit instead of the shitty Dell stuff they buy today.
Today I am ...
embarrassed to be a Canadian
@Mark
wma files are evil anyways Sony is just trying to save your soul.
Yep I just upgraded my Vista
To Ubuntu 7.10 it only took 15 minutes with 1 reboot right at the end.
Now this laptop actually works without freezing and I can finally get my job done again.
Too bad
Poor Indians, SuSE sucks!
Guess this is how Novell is going to find Novell experienced people to work in their call centres.
@Morten Bjoernsvik
Whoa!!
The first thing I do when I encounter SuSE is wipe it and install Red Hat or Ubuntu (depending on the roll).
