To me this seems a possible good step i.e. setting up standard ways to share data rather than a massive database that was created by the consultants so their employers could milk the system. I think it might be a good idea to wait and see what happens. Good point about HMG and IT though, I am not holding my breath - too dangerous.

Why on this and a number of other threads people claim that copy protection and DRM are illegal? I thought that, at least in the USA, DRM was actually a part of their law (although EL Reg being a British site this of course does not apply here, but tell the mericans that). I'm not much of a gamer myself so I would not have seen any of the arguments on the subject, and am genuinely interested.

By exposing this kind of rubbish the authors may loose their jobs. They may well think their writing skills (at least fictional anyway) may justify them getting a similar job to you, thus giving you competition for the title of most amusing commentator on military matters.

Have you thought this through? What if al-Qaeda take the hump at the article and decide to bomb El Reg's offices (or maybe the nearby pub; they stand more chance of getting people there). I for one cannot do without my daily fix at the Register. Issue all the staff with steel helmets - that way they can do without the tin foil hats as well.
I suggested to my bank that they add a check box to their web site disabling the creation of new payees - I have already got all those I need set up. Once selected, I would have to ask my bank via a letter to re-enable creating new payees. That way, even if somebody did get my online banking details, they could not benefit from them.
If the phone lines were jammed, then surely as many fans on one side would be unable to get through as the other. Or are they implying that the voting company knew what the person's vote was and blocked those who wanted to vote for Rhydian?
