After becoming a Sony user due to disgust with my Xbox experience all I can say is so much for Sony taking the high end and giving us gaming snobs a better gaming experience. Sad enough, though the WII games suck, you can still pirate them, online is free and the damn system works. You knew which way Sony was heading when they let a westerner (and an evil drm friendly media executive at that) run the company. My bet is most of these problems would not be near as nasty if the systems DRM was not assuming the user is hacking the system instead of the fact that once again the Japanese fail at software development. Outside of the gaming industry Japanese software has always been among the worse in every industry I have worked in and now it looks like this slowly coming to pass in gaming as well.
