On a bit more serious note, we need digitally transmitted video for the
following reasons:
1) It does not have a theoretical quality loss at any level;
2) Converting D/D is a hell of a lot simpler than converting A/D.
Now, if the manufacturers have at least a bit of a clue and implement it
properly, the following would also apply:
2) We would never have to care about the opinion of devices about
interface standards;
3a) Transmitting to and from non-display devices (recorders and the like) becomes trivial;
4) The cost and difficulty of producing and handling video signals would
both drop dramatically.
