I agree

I certainly agree, the whole Microsoft not reading the firewaire standard properly so firewire 800 support was messed up destroyed firewaire in a way.

Firewire has the advantage of not needing a main host so that two devices can talk to each other without involving the PC. No need for hubs, any device can add power to the bus and allow others to draw power. USB was just a way of avoiding a license fee and it is a shame. I believe there is work on firewire 1600.

I also agree, This is a mess. Why not design a Grpahics port which is the same for all devices. Since we are now running digitally it doesn't matter! No special TV out on graphics cards or anything. If HDMI can handle DVI resolutions then go for it, just remove the encryption. That and it would mean computers coud play blue ray, although I dont agree with HDCP anyway.
