That buzzing noise shouldn't be happening. I have a new 21" (although I took the Core i5 BTO route) and there's no buzzing whatever the screen brightness is set to. If you can live with it fine, but for the price an iMac costs you should be expecting perfection. It's not a fault with the model, so you have one that's flawed. Get it swapped.
On a more general note, this is one great machine and well worth the money IMO. Of course it won't suit everyone's needs, but I couldn't be happier with mine.
