US police have launched a criminal investigation after a child was advertised for sale on Xbox Live.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, based in Florida, said that an Xbox Live member recently posted …
Presumably she gets a few calls to buy her daughter every so often anyway so it wasn't until you noticed they were coming in unusually fast that she realized something was up.
What if the kid was the one pulling off the prank?
However, I'd have to say that those callers are idiots. Who in their right mind would believe someone would actually sell a kid in something like XBox Live? It is obvious that such a post is a joke.

It was a joke. Don't be such a bunch of tards. Laugh it off, call the callers morons (which they are) and spend your time doing something more worthwhile.
"By the 18th or 19th call, I knew something wasn't right"
Darwin was wrong after all!
Anyway, why X-box? I would have advertised on Craigs List or eBay.

But given that almost all IT news involves the ultimate use of hardware somewhere why, unless someone is implying some dark depths that I didnt think suitable for a family publication (ahem) like El Reg, is it in the Hardware News section?
Or did we think that the Sods section might be, err, a bit close to the bone?

A felony rap seems way harsh for this prank. What was the worst outcome of this even if not discovered by the coppers?

None too fast on the draw, is she?
Or maybe she usually gets sixteen or seventeen angry calls every day, so she didn't notice anything amiss until the extra ones started arriving...

and up until the 18th or 19th call??? #
The first dozen or so didn't make her think 'hmmm, this is odd' ???
Was it her own child desperately trying to find a new home with a mother who had a brain?

Jonathan Swift was right. #
How old was the child on offer? Was it purely milk-fed?? How much did it weigh???
I'm thinking of Mr. Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and wondering what wine would go best with the aforementioned infant.

As the 'happy' father of a child that age, the picture makes me melt.
On the other hand - £50 and she's yours.

Usual suspect: #
The first two things I'd check:
1) Does the girl offered for sale have a brother? Brother may be jealous of the attention the girl is getting.
2) Does the woman have a boyfriend? Boyfriend may look upon the kid as a nuisance.

Seriously?
For something that is quite original, gutsy to actually do it and obviously not for real?
(And quite funny as well)
Paris, for she would be happy to be taken this seriously.

If something nasty is posted on the net, its usually not done by the person saying 'please call me on 555 8724'.
